Remarks

The admission process for Bachelor of Technology (BTech) and Integrated Master of Science (IMSC) at BIT Mesra is solely based on the ranks received in Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main. The cutoffs (OPEN Category) range widely from around 16000 for Computer Science and Engineering (4 Years, BTech) to around 62000 for Food Technology (5 Years, IMSC). The application form, application fees as well as application dates were handled through Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), as BIT Mesra is one of the prestigious colleges in India. The admissions started from 4th November 2022 onwards, as instructed by JoSAA to all the colleges participating under it. The admission process was well and good.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I opted for Bachelor in Technology in Computer Science and Engineering as I have a great interest in computers and associated devices. The future scope of this course is great as well. The faculty: student ratio is 1:80 in the CSE Department for the UG course. Nearly all the faculties are passouts from elite colleges such as IIT Madras, IISc Bangalore, IIT Kharagpur, etc., and hold Ph.D. degrees. Hence, they're more than qualified to shine their light of knowledge on us. The teaching methods followed vary from faculty to faculty. Some prefer teaching using presentations while some prefer the old-school method of teaching on board. Either way, they try their level best to deliver us the content we need, and make sure we understand every bit of it. I haven't given a term exam as of yet, as our classes had begun on 28th November due to the COVID Pandemic. But we do have received a schedule for the exams, and our mid-semester exams are going to start mid-January, and end-semesters in March.

Internships Opportunities

5

Many tech giants including Microsoft, Walmart, Amazon, Atlassian, etc. visit BIT Mesra and offer internships to students. The majority of the students can grab the internship offers which range from a period of 2 to 6 months.

Placement Experience

5

The placements at BIT Mesra stand shoulder to shoulder with the top institutions of the country. The overall college average in 2021-22 was 13.01 LPA, and that of the CSE Department was 19.28 LPA with 84% and 97% placements respectively. Students become eligible for campus placements after the 7th semester. The top companies visited include Amazon and Atlassian among various others. The highest package offered last year was 58.33 Lacs per Annum, which was offered by Atlassian After getting the degree BTech in Computer Science Engineering from BIT Mesra, I plan to get placed in one of the top companies which visit the campus and later go for a Master in Computer Science.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure somewhere lies between that of prestigious institutions such as IITs and NITs and that of other prestigious institutions such as BITS Pilani. The overall fees for a 4-Year course in BTech are somewhere between 16 to 17 lacs, including hostel and mess charges. However, there are various opportunities for scholarships as the GP Birla scholarship, where a student has to lie among certain top students of the college in a semester and can get up to 100% scholarship in that particular semester. Other scholarships include ranks in JEE Main examination etc. There is financial assistance available for students whose parent's annual income is less than 3 lacs per annum. There aren't any official campus jobs as of yet. However, there are various startups by seniors of the college which provide various tasks such as content writing, prospecting, etc., and one can earn pretty much enough by joining one of them to carry out their monthly expenditures independently.

Campus Life

5

BIT Mesra offers a lush green campus that spreads over 780 acres of land, separated from the main town, which feels peaceful. However, if one feels like partying around once in a while, the college provides various buses daily with different time slots, and one can board them to reach the nearest city, Ranchi in less than 45 minutes. BITOTSAV is the annual fest held at BIT Mesra every year in February. It is one of the largest cultural fests held in northeast India. Pantheon is the tech fest held here, which takes place in Oct-Nov every year. Other fests include Deepotsav etc. The library at BIT Mesra is huge with over 150000 books available. However, most of them are engineering-focused, which makes the visit to the library a bit monotonous. The classrooms are large and luxurious and attending the lectures feels blissful. There are around 20 clubs at BIT Mesra which include tech clubs such as IEEE, cultural clubs such as LEO, etc., which are run by the seniors.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

There are 14 hostels in the college, which include 2 Girls' hostels and 12 Boys' hostels. Freshers get double-bedded rooms in the hostel and Sophomores and above get single-bedded rooms. Double rooms are equipped with a fan, a tube light, two beds, a common table, and a switchboard. There are shelves to keep our goods and lodgings as well. The meal quality lies between average and great. The menu includes both veg and non-veg items and students have to choose whether they want the veg item or its non-veg counterpart. This way, vegetarians don't face an issue either. Moreover, the menu keeps changing from time to time on students' demand by the mess secretary, who is appointed by the students themselves. Registration for hostels takes place at the time of admission itself. Later, students can register for hostels while registering for a particular semester. Hostels are affordable and students need not rent rooms or PGs.

Other Applied Colleges

Vellore Institute of Technology - [VIT University] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)

I did not opt for Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore as the return of investment isn't up to the mark. The students intake is way too high, which isn't really great about a college. I find the courses and placements provided at Birla Institute of Te

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum exam ready for students of mechanical engineering it focuses on industrial level exposure and for other competitive exams like gate and IES with good faculty who teaches almost all concepts. There are labs for each subject in which we get real world application knowledge. Also course is updated regularly as per the requirement of industry . The course can we improved by making course more practical rather than a writing all things on practical it should include project for students. Frequency of exam is that in every 15 days there is a exam with moderate to difficult level.

Placement Experience:

At BIT Mesra third is like full of practice for placements and final year more of placements activities than studies. So, when all these things are in order placements obviously will be more or less certain and here they are certain only with almost 90% students are places through campus with annual placements of 8-10 lakhs per annum.
