Remarks

College management needs to hire yound minds as faculties who can inspire the students and help them shape their career in a way they dreamt of while taking admission in this college.

Entrance Preview

I took JEE MAINS 2013 and scored around 160 or of 360. I opted for this college because my father is a metallurgist and an alumni of this college and college has seen some of the best placements in metallurgy. Moreover I was not getting other branches in other NITs so opted for metallurgy here.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

Considering metallurgy, this college has seen some great donations to metallurgical industry when sound minds from our college has given extra ordinary Solutins to some if the industrial problems. But this college is doesn't support mediocre students. Only sharp minds who are in good eyes of faculties are given opportunity for research and other things. Mediocre students just complete their degree and go. The curriculum covers different aspects of metallurgy from physical metallurgy to mechanical metallurgy to composite and ceramics to nanoscience. Electives are good and their are enough options for students to choose their subjects considering their interests.

Internships Opportunities

College did provide internships. Our Training and placement cell works throughout the year for inviting companies to visit our campus for internships. Stipends ranges from 10k to 30k per month. Companies who visited for internships are UHG etc.

Placement Experience

2.5

Around 70% of the total eligible students are placed till the closing time of Placement season. Companies from fir manufacturing field to vote software fields visit our campus. High package offering companies are: Amazon (28lpa), Adobe women (20lpa), Dishti software (16pla), coal India (10lpa), UHG (10lpa), Vedanta (9lpa) Medium package companies are: UHG analytics (6.7lpa), Jindal, Polaris, oracle, mu Sigma, AQ solutions, and many others offering packages ranging from 5 to 8lpa. Mass recruiters like Infosys, wipro, CTS also visit our campus.

College Events

4

Cultural fest: Eclectika (footfall 30000) Technical fest: Aavartan (footfall 5000) Sports fest: Samar (footfall 7000) Apart from these fests, our college has iniated to conduct TEDx university event in our college yearly by the name TEDxNITRaipur. Eclectika is a major attraction of all state and other NITs' students.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure is quite expensive for general students as it costs around 1.5 lacs including tuition fees and other fees. Apart from these, hostel fees is 30000 (including mess and electricity etc). These revised tuition fees are approved from the central government and reserved students are given fee waiver upto 100% depending on their family income. They also receive scholarships under other government schemes.

Fees and Financial Aid

College doesn't provide any loan or scholarship to the students but being a centrally funded college, different scholarships of government include our college students under their eligibility criteria.

Campus Life

2.5

Campus life is great. These 4 years in anyones life are the most beautiful years and this college provides a good one. Gender ratio is quite low as one can expect being an engineering college. People from different parts of India study here. Though there's a need of duchenne union in this college as political involvement in this college is very low.

Hostel Facilities

3

We have 3600+ students and have hostel capacity of 1500 for boys and 300 for girls. PGs are available for students near the college campus ranging from 2000 to 5000 per month depending on the facilities. Hostel facilities are good but the mess food needs to be improved in terms of hygiene and taste.

Alumni/Alumna

One of the main strengths of this college is alumni network. Or alumni consists of Mr. Adib Ali Neemuchwala (Wipro chairperson), Mr. Sudhir Vasudeva (ONGC chairman) and other key persons in india as well as other parts of the world and they are interconnected by the alumni association.

Exam Structure

A semester typically consists of 2 CTs (15 marks each) and 1 end sem (70 marks) for every subjects. Other than this, Teacher's Assessment also has 20 marks weightage. CTs are a bit hectic as we appear for 2 CTs in a single day. But the end sems are not too hectic.

Admission

Being an NIT, one cannot simply take admission directly on this college. Rather he/she has to appear for an All India level exam JEE MAINS which is conducted by CBSE and is compulsory to be eligible to apply for any NITs or other central funded engineering colleges (except IITs). The notification for the test comes around November and the test is usually conducted in first week of May. After the results are declared, on online portal goes live in which we have to fill out preferences for the desired colleges and branches. The seat allotments usually occur in 4-5 rounds. After allotment of seat in any of our preference, we have to visit the campus and confirm the seat otherwise the seat is allotted to other candidates in next round. The overall process is very easy if you read the notification of JEE MAINS carefully.

Faculty

2.5

Faculty of our college is quite old fashioned. Students don't get enough attention and help from the students for research oriented things. Faculties just want to receive their salary and give lectures and go home. Even they dont want to spend time on setting new exam question papers and just copy paste the previous year question papers. Yound faculties do work on research and heko enthusiastic students but they also don't get enough support from senior Faculties. Faculties are qualified though and come from very reputed institution doing their master's of PhD.

Placement Experience:

Final year students are eligible to appear for campus placements which starts towards the end of their 7th semester. Companies that visited for Civil Engineering: L&T, Adani, Stratview Research, PlanetSpark and several local firms. The highest packages were offered by Adani (approx 7 LPA) and L&T (6-7 LPA). Around 5-7 students received placement offers from the mentioned companies. It is important to note that a lot many students did not sit for campus placements as they had different career aspirations (government jobs, higher education, business ventures etc.) My plans were to prepare for upcoming competitive government exams as well as try my hand at something different and creative

Microtex, HCL, Wipro and many other IT companies gives us research projects and also their work as well. So, we basically have indirectly worked for them and the ones they feel can add more to their organization comes with a clear mind and take us with a package that we expect them to. So, placements are purely on performance as those who perform well are given best of placements.
