Remarks

An Honours degree is more specialized than a general degree. For the course, I took up, Statistics Honours, it was necessary to have studied Mathematics in grade 12. Delhi University considers the score of the best four subjects with English being a mandatory subject for almost all courses. The application form, fees, and dates will be uploaded to the Delhi University website. Usually, there is a gap of 3-4 days between two cut-offs being released. The entire process takes a little more than a month. The year I joined, cut-offs were released even after the course had started which was something that the university could improve.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

I chose Statistics honors over Mathematics (my second preference) as I felt Statistics is the real-world application of Mathematics. Besides, programming languages like R, C++, and SPSS are a part of our syllabus. However, one con about the course is that it is too theoretical. For someone who is more interested in learning the most popular programming languages, a Data Science course would be more suitable. Most of the faculty were highly qualified. They would encourage us to write research papers even if they weren't in our syllabus. In our final year, however, we did not have a professor for one subject and had to rely on notes from other college professors. I found the internal exams set harder than the end-term exams as fewer/no options are provided between questions.

Internships Opportunities

4

HUL, LEK, RedSeer, Bank of America, De Shaw, and Fischer Jordan are among the few companies that visit the campus for internships. These internships are open to second-year students. The highest stipend offered is that of 3 lakhs for 2 months.

Placement Experience

5

At LSR, placements are brilliant. The MBBs, De Shaw, Dalberg, ZS, Accenture, Ab InBev, Marico, Deloitte, KPMG, Gartner, RedSeer, and LEK are among the few companies that recruit from LSR. The average package offered in 2022 was 9.8 LPA, and the highest was 40 LPA. Almost every student who seriously wishes to find a job (and prepares for it) gets placed.

Fees and Financial Aid

My first-year fee was ~Rs 20000. Second-year, it was ~7000 (3000 deducted as classes were held online and labs weren't used). The final year fee was ~10,000. There are scholarships and financial assistance provided to students, however, the process is very slow and most students don't receive it until they are in their second year. Hostels are only available to first-year students on the basis of merit. The rest stay in PGs around the college. PG rents cost around 12K-18K a month per head for a triple-sharing room. It is very difficult to find single rooms below 20K. For those who can't afford it, an alternative is to rent a 2 or 3BHK with 5-8 people. Some students also book PGs in North Campus as it is relatively cheaper there.

Campus Life

5

There is a program happening almost every day at LSR. The crowd and energy around are simply amazing! While there are individual fests and programmes conducted by every department and almost every society, the most popular of them all is Tarang - the annual fest of LSR. We also celebrate Noor - our Diwali fest with great pomp and show. LSR has almost 30-35 clubs and to get selected in a club even as a member, you need to go through rounds of rigorous screening processes. The payoff is worth the effort. Most companies that come for placement focus highly on extracurricular activities. LSR has a huge library with 150000+ books. It is almost equipped with computers with the internet should any student require it.

The students become eligible for placements after second year or even third year. Companies like Google, Deloitte, KPMG, HDFC Bank, Maruti Suzuki, McKinsey, etc visited our college for placements and recieved over 200 placement offers in the latest year 2025. Highest package of Hindu College is 36.5 LPA and the average package is 11.4 LPA. Hindu College has a high placement rate of 95% of eligible students securing a placement here. My plan is to prepare for UPSC or SSC-CGL after my degree.
