Srivisak G's Review On National Institute Of Electronics & Information Technology - [NIELIT], Calicut

College is good. Management is OK. Come here if you are willing to work hard and earn good knowledge.

GATE score - 467. As I was working in a IT company and had to change my domain to embedded systems, I chose to write GATE and join NIELIT

The course curriculum is just too vast but some of the subjects proved to be very helpful in the due course of doing project work. I found out that some subjects were not needed for the students who are looking out for a different domain and there occurs a division of opinion if the student opt for software/hardware.

The college encourages companies to provide internship for the students. Either the students go to the companies with the reference of the faculties or the companies come to the college for providing internship. Some companies will not be providing stipend whereas some companies in Bangalore provide stipend in the range of 10-20k. Companies in Kochi are providing stipend within 8k.

Mostly the students doing internship in various companies are getting placed in their respective companies. Otherwise, the students who are doing projects in the college are getting placement through various referral program from alumni as well as through off campus recruitment drive.

There are many technical events organized in the neighborhood campus of NIT calicut, which is just 1km far from NIELIT. The other event which is being conducted here is Rhythm, an annual event conducted with pomp and splendor where students will be displaying their talent in both technical as well as in the field of arts.

Provided if you are having GATE scholarship. the total fees paid by you will be less than the total stipend received for 24 months. Or else, the fees seems to be a bit expensive. But looking into one side of it, the labs here are well quipped and students should utilize those effectively.

The college acts as a channel to disburse the scholarship directly from AICTE for those who qualified GATE entrance exam. Apart from that, there is no scholorship offered. SC/ST students can avail reduction in semester fees.

As mentioned above, students can display their talent in Rhtym. There are other sporting events conducted in the campus like Badminton tournament. Also, the hostel has a good area enabling students to practice games like Shuttle Badminton, Volleyball etc.

The hostel for boys is around 650m from the college and for girls it is inside. The accommodation so far is good. No guarantee for mess as students coming from different parts of the country may find it difficult to adjust with it. But Calicut, known as the Good Food place in Kerala, you can venture out in the weekend and have a spicy biriyani and Sulaimani added with a serene walk around the Calicut beach.

The alumni network is the strength of the campus. Most of the alumnis from NIELIT are now in good positions in various embedded companies.

The faculties are really good. I would like to give my sincere gratitude to the lab faculties for their exceptional knowledge and understanding of the current wave in the field and for updating it. The faculties are encouraging to do more lab sessions and cement our knowledge.
