Remarks
Make it easier and make it clear beforehand. We were informed that the hostel fees for two months would be 24000 but there was an end moment hike of 10000rupees. Hostel fees for the lockdown period (Jan-Feb) are still not refunded and the hostel authorities and other rules are sexist towards girls. The college is good, just how a college should be, given the education and other factors.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose CSE because I liked to code. The faculty is nice, understanding, and tries their hardest to make kids understand the material. Faculty: student ratio is 1:60. Some of the professors are doing their PhDs. We're given proper course handouts at the start of the session and everything works according to that. The term exams are conducted every two weeks.
Internships Opportunities
Chitkara is very passionate about startups etc. I worked in a startup at the chikara University itself. It was a nice experience to be working under my peers. The work culture wasn't the best, as the founders were novices themselves. But overall it was a good experience.
Placement Experience
The university claims to give placements to everyone but the average salary is between 4-5lacs. The students from the 6th semester become eligible for placements and internships. Many minor companies visit the campus and only few major companies like Amazon visit the campus. The highest package offered by the university is 37lacs. The lowest can be 4lacs. My plan after getting the degree will be to work and complete my master's.
Fees and Financial Aid
The hostel fees are meant to increase by 5% every year. The course fees remain constant. There's no financial assistance or scholarship provided by the university. Considering all the factors, the course fees and the hostel fees is unreasonably expensive.
Campus Life
When we entered, we were promised "funky Friday" every Friday but there have only been two DJ nights, and that too, only for the hostellers. There was no fest of any kind till now. There are various clubs and societies in the university managed by the students under the guidance of faculty who hold functions and other activities regularly. The main library is very small and jam-packed all of the time and studying there is not the aptest at times. Mostly, only the books related to the course are available there which run out very quickly too. The classrooms are big and airy but oftentimes, the AC isn't working even though it's 40°C+ in the city I'm currently living in. The wifi doesn't work most times too. Sports and extracurricular activities are held extensively and competitions are also held.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel Life amongst the students is good but the hostel Life given by the authorities isn't always the best because the warden can be sexist. We're given one cooler in the room of 4. Wifi connections and desks for studying are also provided. The meal quality suffers sometimes and in the past few days, many students have suffered from food poisoning. Milk and fruits aren't provided in the mess. We've to buy milk from the cafeteria. Fruits aren't available on the whole campus. Salad isn't provided regularly even though all these amenities are necessary for mental and physical growth and to keep the gut strong. The hostel is too expensive and costs over 10000 a month whereas my peers in the PG and flats are living at 4000 a month Max.
