MBA from an Old IIT: VGSoM

Eligibility: Minimum four years of undergrad ie either Btech or Masters. The form is available on the official VGSoM website. Not availed any benefit. The admission process was conducted very smoothly even in Covid Times, with online interviews in Zoom.

The MBA at VGSoM is geared for engineers and the courses in Tech and Ops are very well designed and taught for creating techno-managers. I liked courses like ERP, MIS, Tech Management, Software Project Management. A faculty student ratio would be a good 1:5, ie for 100 students, there are 20 faculty members across all disciplines. Faculties are all PhD as up to central IIT standards. The exams are very rigorous and a lot of self-study is needed.

VGSoM is one of the best for internships. Summer internships are offered by placement cell to all leading corporates. Companies like Wipro, PwC, Accenture, Titan, Amazon are regulars and offer stipends of 80000 pm. Niche cutting-edge projects are given to students.

Placements are really awesome and being an old IIT we attract the best recruiters. 70-80 companies visit and make 100+ offers for the students. 100% placement occurs. Highest would be 27 and the average would be 18. It is up to the standards of new IIMs.

Affordability wise it is the best option, as in India average cost of an MBA is 15 lakhs from any good institute, whereas VGSoM fees are 10 lakhs. Fee hike does not happen that often and course fee is regulated by IIT. Scholarships and financial assistance options are available from Campus offices. Summer placements provide a good stipend of 50000 pm.

Purvodaya is the annual B-school Fest, Khsitij and Spring fest are hugely popular and they are famous fests in KGP. All fests draw huge participation and campus life is very rich in culture and fun opportunities. Parties in KGP are one of the best. Infrastructure wise, it has the highest standards as expected from an Old IIT. All forms of sports infrastructure are available and classrooms are state of the art. There are 19 clubs catering to all student interests.

All amenities like lights, fans, beds, tables, balcony are provided. It's twin sharing and all students get a hostel, registration for which is done through ERP. Food is sadly not up to the mark in mess, but a lot of other options are there in the sprawling 10,000-acre campus.

No GD happened, Online PI only happened for me. It was during peak Covid Season and it was in Zoom. It was very smoothly conducted and the adcom coordinated it well through Pagalguy and other media. Questions in PI were from basics of Engineering, current affairs and other general HR questions.
