Remarks

Over all the college is great( academic and the extracurricular activities). Hostel and food could have been better.

Entrance Preview

The exam which i wrote was AIPMT. But now according to new rules you have to clear NEET before getting into any medical college. speaking about the score. it has to be pretty good to get into calicut medical college (it is a govt medical college). Usually to top scores get into calicut and trivandrum medical college.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Calicut medical college comes under kerala university of health sciences. Apart from MBBS other courses like BDS, nursing, pharmacy, paramedical courses are available. MBBS is a 4.5 year course. It is divided into 9 semesters and 4 years (2nd year = 3 semesters).

Internships Opportunities

Yes the college provides internship in the form of 1 year housesurgeoncy. It is the best time to learn and develop skills which will be with you your whole life. During this 1 year you will be posted in different departments.

Placement Experience

4.5

Passouts from calicut medical college are valued all over India and abroad. You can either get into a private hospital as MO or get a govt. Job in a PHC( afer writing PHC exam. You can also start private practice as a general physician. If you want to continue your studies you can prepare for the PG entrance examination.Various coaching centers are available for PG entrance. The college alumni also provides coaching for PG entrance.

College Events

4.5

I cant think of a single event which is not celebrated in this college. The college union is a very active group and is organising something to entertain you or spread awareness among general population about some diseases. Then there is Intermedicos fest where students from all the medical colleges in kerala participate.

Fee Structure And Facilities

As it is government medical college the fee is just 20k per year .Apart from this there is hostel fee and mess fee which is also very cheap. Hostel fee comes around 500rs per month. You have to pay the security deposit( which is refundable) at the time of hostel admission. Mess bill per month is usually 3 thousand but it changes according to how much extra you take. During the time of admission you have to pay PTA fund (10000rs). Apart from this the expense is very less. If you belong to ST or SC category you dont have to pay a penny. Education, accommodation, food everything is free for you.

Fees and Financial Aid

I personally dont know of any scholarships or loans provided by the college. But students belonging to the reserved category( ST and SC) get free education, free accommodation and free food.

Campus Life

4

The campus life is great.College union is busy organizing programmes throughout the year. DJ nights are held at regular interval. If you are a sports person this is the best college for you. More than 95% of the population is comprised by the local people. Very few students from north India opt for this college because of language issue(you have to learn malayalam to pass the practical exam) and food(mess does not provide north indian food). The gender ratio favours girls and because of this the girls hostel is always overcrowded.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

The hostel facility and food are the weak points of calicut medical college. Hostels(especially girls hostel) are a bit overcrowded . Single rooms are not available for the freshers so they have to share the rooms. During 1st year you will be in a dorm or you have to share the room with 4 other girls but as you become senior the number of people sharing the room decreases and finally in your final year you will get a single room or double room. For boys overcrowding is not a big issue except during 1st year. Food is not up to the mark. If you are vegetarian its better to start a mess from outside.

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors are very helpful(especially before the exams by giving tips and their notes). Ragging is not at all an issue. Seniors are very friendly and are always ready to help. Most of the seniors come back for post graduation so you will be in contact with them throughout your course.

Exam Structure

We have end semester exams after every semester and university exam at the end of the year. Apart from these exams during your clinical postings in the wards you will have end posting exams( these are practical exams). During the exams both the theoretical as well as the practical knowledge is tested. Over all you have a lot of exams. seniors are very helpful during the exams. They will explain you the exam pattern and provide you their valuable notes.

Admission

The admission procedure is quite simple. You have to bring all your certificates( 10th and 12th report cards, passing certificate) and around 20 passport size photos. You have to pay the fees which is just 20000 rs. If you want to stay in a hostel then you have to pay the security deposit.

Faculty

4

The college gives you the luxury of having the best and highly qualified faculty. As it is the only government medical college in north kerala, the patient load is more. So you get to see a variety of cases in the wards and learn from them. Most of the faculty members are the alumni of this college.
