Remarks
I had applied for multiple NITs, but I had only chosen Electrical Eng, Mechanical Eng, and Chemical Engineering (preference order). Yes, I availed Home State quota. The minimum Criteria is to score at least 75% in CBSE boards to get admitted to NITs. The overall admission process was quite smooth. We had to arrange 7-8 papers like Seat Allotment letter, Medical Test paper, 10 and 12th mark sheet, Migration Certificate, etc.
Course Curriculum Overview
I always wanted to be in Core Engineering, therefore I chose this course. The faculty-student ratio would be around 1:10 probably. The professors are highly qualified, having their Ph.D. degrees from IITs, IISc, and foreign institutes. Most of the professors are also good at teaching, some are really friendly. The yearly timetable is strictly followed, the exams and classes are timely conducted.
Internships Opportunities
We are not allowed to disclose the name of the companies visited, stipends offered, and the roles offered, until the whole placement drive is successful. It is recommended to have some projects and previous internship experience in the second year to leave a good impression on the interviewer, though it is not mandatory.
Placement Experience
From the 5th Semester, many companies come with internship opportunities, and from the 7th sem, companies come for Full-time opportunities. As of now, the name of companies visited can't be disclosed as per the guidelines of the TnP cell, though the placement drive is going on in full swing. More than 65-70% of the final year students have been placed. The highest and average packages are around 45 LPA and 11-12 LPA respectively. My plans are to work in the core corporate sector after getting the degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
For General Students, the approximate fee is about 90-95 thousand for each Semester. There are hardly any scholarships available for general male students, though SC, ST, OBC, General EWS, Girls, etc have multiple opportunities. There are no as such campus jobs also.
Campus Life
Multiple tests are conducted in NIT Rourkela. Techfest, Innovision in November, Cultural Fest, Nitrutsav in march-April, Sports Festival, Vridhi during Jan-Feb. Extracurricular activities are quite encouraged here, there are clubs for almost everything starting from dramatics, coding, dancing, singing, finance, journalism, etc to sports, entrepreneurship, etc. Monday Morning is the student-run media body of NIT Rourkela, it has its presence in All Social Medias including Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc. The classrooms, labs, and library are also great and well equipped.
Hostel Facilities
Gym, badminton, volleyball courts, table tennis, book shop, laundry services, canteens, etc are available for each hostel. The food is above avg, non-veg, and veg food are equally given importance to. The hostel registration process is quite simple, as they are included in the overall fees. The hostels are quite affordable also.
