Entrance Preview
GBPEC is a Government engineering college, and so in 1998 it was mandatory to clear the state engineering entrance examination. I had cleared CEET-1998 examination (at that time, this examination was conducted by MNREC, Allahabad - as Uttarakhand was still part of U.P. in 1998).
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum was very extensive, and very nice. We had studied all the subjects falling under the purview of Electronics & Communication engineering branch. In Final year, we had done the project on and had built an 8-bit microprocessor using the same. It was a great learning, and college facilitated everything in order to get the project completed on time.
Internships Opportunities
At that time, it didn't use to provide internship. Need to check, whether it gives any now, as the number of courses have increased rapidly in past couple of years.
Placement Experience
Till 2002, couple of IT companies like HCL, NewGen, Quark Software etc. used to come to college for campus interviews. Apart from it, Bharat Electronics was a regular company visiting our college. In the past few years, the number of companies visiting our college has increased a lot.
Fee Structure And Facilities
As it is a government college, the fee structure was very economic. In my first year of B.E., the semester fees was just Rs. 3500 and hostel and mess fees was also approx. Rs. 3,500. As we went into final year of our course, the fees was increased to Rs. 15000, which we thought is a lot at that time. However, with the increase in college fees all over country, it was still a very minimal amount.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
College used to give scholarships to Top 3 students of every branch in every semester. Apart from this, I think there was also some sort of scholarship given to people belonging to the SC/ST category.
Campus Life
Campus life was brilliant in my days. At that time, Male to Female ratio was screwed up in our college, and we didn't have many girls studying with us. However, this same reason became the best reason for chilling out. We all shared a great bondage with our friends, and did lot of masti etc. while we were in the college. The labs in this college are of the world class nature.
Exam Structure
Exams and labs had a regular schedule, but was not very hectic. There was proper time given before the exams for study. However, once the exams started the schedule used to be very hectic until they get finished. We generally used to write 2 papers in a day, and there used to be few gaps here and there during the whole schedule.
Admission
The admission forms for CEET-1998 were filled in Jan. 1998 (the best guess from my memory), and the examination was held in May 1998. The results were out in July-1st week, and there was counselling scheduled for last week of July'1998 for admission at M.N.R.E.C. Allahabad. At the time of counselling. I had chosen 'Mechanical Engineering' in this college.
Faculty
The faculty of our college was always of the best class. Our Principal - Dr. Satya Sheel was a great academician and great person. His focus on discipline was always very high, and the whole college always paid him the respect of greatest kind. Each and every faculty in the college focused on the course curriculum, and took additional classes wherever it was required.
