Remarks

For getting an admission in any college of IPU, one has to pass the CET Exam. When the IP University released the CET Exam application form for different courses, we were supposed fill it up for each course of our choice and make the payment for each of them. I followed this process for B.A. Economics (H), Bcom(H) and BBA. Then, IPU released the datesheet for the exams of all the courses. Eligibility criteria to sit for a CET Exam is minimum 60% in CBSE Boards. The exam was held on the centre, but an online mode. My centre was in Greater Noida. I scored 655th rank in eco. Now, we'd to pay Rs.1K for the course we want to proceed with. I eliminated BBA and paid for rest of the two. After this we had to rank the colleges carefully for the course we paid 1k for, because we would have been allotted colleges accordingly. I got VIPS for B.com in 2nd round of allotment and for Eco(h.) in the 3rd round. I freezed my seat in VIPS for Eco(H) as the other one was quite common & general.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

I chose this course as my aim is to become Economics Lecturer and I found the curriculum quite interesting. Micro & Macro Economics and Statistics are of basic level in the 1st year and gradually the level increases in the subsequent years. Maths and Business English is only in the 1st year. 2nd year would bring up Hindi which most of the students hate to study, but I'm superexcited for it as it's been a long time studying that subject. Later, we'll be having Econometrics, History, International Trade & Political Development, etc as our subjects. Due to covid, we'd completed our 1st sem in about 3 months and 2nd sem in 4 months, so completion of syllabus was difficult for both, the teachers and students. But, the teachers had shown great dedication to make us understand the concepts online in such a short period. All the faculty members are highly educated & most are pursuing their PHD in the field of economics. I found exams to be quite easy, but eng. used to be always a lengthy one.

Internships Opportunities

4

Since I'm in 2nd semester right now, I have no proof of internships offered by VIPS for economics students but I've heard from the senior students of Placement Cell that they do provide some tasks to make relations with the companies and get the paid internships there. The tasks include Data Handling work and Event Management work.

Placement Experience

4

The students from 5th semester onwards become eligible for the campus placements. Since this course i.e. B.A. (hons) Economics was commenced by the college in the year 2017, there is no official record of placements of economics students of VIPS but there have been seniors telling us about the same. As per them, recruiters from various companies like Infosys, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Oracle, and many more such reputed organisations, visit the campus every year. Almost around 90% of students get placed every year and the average package offered was 3-5lacs per annum.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee for B.A. (hons.) Economics in VIPS is Rs. 1,08,000 PA; which includes University charges of Rs. 15,000 (earlier it was 12,000 but increased due to pandemic which didnt made sense to me but anyways). The fee is quite high in comparison to other colleges but I understand the value a seat in VIPS holds is much higher than any other college of IPU. There is no facility for any scholarship or payment in installments. I got to know from seniors that the college provides multiple paid internships for all the students from the 2nd year onwards.

Campus Life

4.5

VIPS takes care of just not our academic needs but brings about a complete all-around development of the students. The various centralized societies like Vivekalokan, Aflatoon, Elysian, Antrakshar, and other societies for VSE department like Arthvidhya, Vyom, Kalam, and many more, assist us in flourishing in the area of our interest. The conferences for economics students held regularly offer us the wider arena to exchange our views on a concerning subject. The air-conditioned classrooms ensure our comfort while learning with the use of high-tech smartboards. The library provides us with easy access to a vast collection of books, thereby expanding our knowledge on a variety of issues. But, it would have been better if the in-house auditorium had a capacity for a larger sitting. The extra land should have been acquired to build the additional buildings rather than cramping up the playground. The canteen should allow us to place easy walk-in orders than mandatorily through an app.

Other Applied Colleges

Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Management Studies (MAIMS) | B.A. (Hons.) Economics

Location is the main issue, its more likely a village area. Also, no metro connectivity till 5kms.

Placement Experience:

Placements of my college are pretty good. The placement cell of my college is pretty active and facilitataes the placement process. Companies like Deloitte, EY and PWC often come to our college for placements with the average package being Rs. 8,00,000. After getting this degree, i will pursure another degree in MBA or I might also take a part in the placement process and pursue an MBA later. Students in semester 6 and further can take part in the placement process but there are internship fairs and summer internship programmes for students who are not eligible for placements

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have a keen interest in pursuing in Economics field as a career and hence my degree perfectly aligns with my career goals The curriculum is not very effective when we talk aboht the real world exposure however it is very good for further academic pursuits The curriculum could be a bit more practical based where we get exposure to the real industry as well. The exams are held twice in an year. The difficulty level is moderate

the maths it includes under mme , i loved that curriculum, also the micro and macro economics and stats both as sibjects fascinate me alot which is why i chose this course. the curriculum does prepare us for real world applications because it includes stats and eco which are quite helpful. the one thing i think should be improves is that the stats course at times includes stuff which has been taught to us before in class 12th and is not relevant to be taught again.
