Remarks
The college can certainly go a long way in improving its infrastructure and standard of teaching. The exam pattern badly needs to be reformed. Most importantly the college had a space for free thinking and voicing your opinion without fear which is now shrinking.
Entrance Preview
LLB entrance exam is conducted separately by Faculty of law every year in the month of June. I scored 452 marks in the exam and managed to get in easily. This particular college is the best in India when it comes to colleges providing 3 year law course so its an obvious first choice for everybody.
Course Curriculum Overview
The college focuses more on case based studies. The entire course revolves around teaching various concepts of law along with various cases picked up by a group of teachers. As for research, the students are discouraged to participate in activities, moot courts, etc. but none of it is officially a part of the curriculum.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, the college does provide student with opportunities of interning with all sorts of small and big firms. There is a dedicated cell for such activities which is improving with every academic year. As for first & second year students, paid internships are a rarity, final year students can find internships that pay up to 10K.
Placement Experience
As mentioned above, there is a separate placement cell working under the guidance of a dedicated teacher which is improving with every academic year. The college traditionally acquires students who are more interested in judiciary & litigation but the last few years have seen various corporate firms coming to college for recruitment. Some of the names include HDFC bank, Hero, etc. The average package revolves around 4-6 lakhs per annum.
College Events
The college holds a lot of seminars and lectures that are organised by the student union of the college. Guest lecturers, authors with special expertise on law are invited to these seminars to give a talk. The one very popular annual event that the college organises in the KK Luthra moot court competition which attracts law students from across the world. The event is popular for its high standards and considered among the top moot court competitions around the country.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Being a government institution the fee structure is fairly reasonable for students from every strata of society. The annual fees ( 2 semesters combined) is never more than 5k-6k for general category students & relaxations are given to other category students. The annual fees does not include the examination fees which is around 1k.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college rarely provides for any such scholarships or loans. Even if it does, which i am not sure, such details are never shared widely with students.
Campus Life
The college is located in the north campus of Delhi university which is widely acknowledged for its diversity, gender ratio and a liberal attitude towards students. Students come from different parts of society and they are at full liberty to do as they please depending on their equation with their PG & flat owners, hostel rules etc. The campus is ripe with culture of political debates, parties of all sorts, and great street food. However, a lot of disturbing news also keeps coming in from time to time relating to matters of race discrimination, group fights etc. All in all it is a place you do not want to judge without being at.
Hostel Facilities
The college does not have a hostel of its own. But the university hostel provides a certain number of seats ( never more than 40-50) to the college. Students are given priority on the basis of their ranks & category. As a result of this a lot of outstation students are forced to live in PG's of flats that can cost anywhere between 5k-20k depending on location, facilities provided, etc. A well furnished, fully equipped PG near the college area will cost anything around 15k-20k per month on a sharing basis.
Alumni/Alumna
As indicated in the title, the college carries a great legacy with a lot of current High court and supreme court judges & advocates graduating from this college. If you go to any court in delhi, chances are you will end up meeting at least one alumni of this college ready to get nostalgic. A lot of these alumnis are in direct touch with students and help them clear their doubts. A recent visit to teez hazari court introduced us to a judge who was a student of our college and has only recently become a judge. He spent a considerable time talking to us about various matters and ended up inviting us for another round of conversation soon.
Exam Structure
The exam structure is pretty basic and actually leaves you asking for more. The college follows the semester pattern wherein you are required to appear in 5 exams per semester. The papers are 100 marks each with no marks for practicals or any other activity. You have to score a minimum of 45 marks in each paper to pass. Also, you have to clear a minimum of 5 papers out of 10 ( 2 semesters combined) to get promoted to the next year.
Admission
The admission process is quite simple. The university conducts it own LLB entrance exam every year in the month of June and the forms are out generally by the month of April. You are required to have a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in your graduation degree to be able to sit for this exam. The results of the exam are announced on the university website in a week or so. There are around 2500 seats presently across all categories & batches ( there are three different batches), and based on your marks & rank in the entrance exam you either get in or not. The admission process lasts for around a month when students are called for counselling based on their rank.
Faculty
The college has all sorts of faculty members ranging from very bad to really good, with the latter being in minority. A lot of teachers lack a basic understanding of the concepts they are teaching and fail to connect with students. However, there are a few teachers that are really good and their teachings can stay with you for a long time. Both students and teachers can also work on bridging the student teacher relation outside of classrooms which is very essential for any college.
