Entrance Preview
I took COMEDK, which is an entrance exam for non- Karnataka students for studying in colleges in Karnataka. I scored a decent rank, 5264 and couldn't get into the top tier colleges. Apart from those, RNSIT was pretty highly ranked as far as academics were concerned, and hence, i took up admission here.
Internships Opportunities
The semester structure of VTU is such that it provides no time for students to pursue internships and that is one of the major drawbacks that I found in my last year. Combine that with attendance issues and matters become worse.
Placement Experience
The placement and job opportunities were quite good , considering RNSIT is not one of the top tier colleges. As far as i remember, 6.3 LPA was the highest package offered by Thought works but I might be wrong. For details , check the official college website.
Fee Structure And Facilities
For the students coming in through CET (Karnataka students), the fee structure is very nominal and basic. For COMEDK students (the non-Karnataka students), the fee was pretty high , ranging close to 2 LPA per year. For the students applying through Management Quota, the figure went higher up, close to 3.5 LPA a year.
Fees and Financial Aid
There were little to no scholarships available for COMEDK students. However, the CET students had some decent options as far as scholarships were concerned. I do not know the details as i could not avail them but they did exist.
Campus Life
The gender ratio was pretty good, around 65:35, which is actually decent for an engineering college. The student diversity was good too, with people ranging from almost all the states of the country. Cultural societies were bubbling up throughout the campus, still in their nascent stages. We had majority of workshops on the technical side but I hope it'll change in later years.
Exam Structure
The labs were not very hectic, but the manual dependent system was pretty bad. But then again, there were teachers who did not compel us to follow the manuals and encouraged us to try out new stuff. The exams, as i mentioned, spanned over a month and we got ample time for preparation. But the course and syllabus leaves a lot to be desired by VTU.
Admission
We had two rounds of counselling in which we had to choose the stream and college. I selected Computer Science and Engineering in RNSIT in my first round. I did attend the second counselling but on finding no better alternative, I stayed with my choice from the first counselling.
