I have a passion for space tech and electrodynamics. This made me prioritise on Electrical Engineering branch. The EE Department of IIT Palakkad has good faculty mentors who can guide you in a research-orientated way. Apart from that, it is closer to my hometown than the rest of the 3rd generation IITs. This made to conclude on IIT Palakkad as the first choice. The admission process is conducted by Josaa. For the freshers, the usual admission date will be during the last week of July and the orientation programme will be starting from the 1st week of August(not applicable to online sem).
Course Curriculum Overview
Our syllabus is a combination of EE and ECE. So the effort that we have to put into understanding the concepts also vary considering the context of our branch. The program is equipped with electives that will enable students to guide their career in their field of interest. Most of the courses offered here will be having a project. This would enable students to apply their concepts learned in the course content while simultaneously working on the project. The faculty members are friendly and supportive. They have started their career after a long research experience which involves their doctorate and post-doctorate from reputed foreign universities. All of them are having their area of interest and the respective research field in which they will be involved. We could directly approach them for guidance if we are interested. Working on their research project is the most effective thing a student can get. Our EE batch is having a class strength of 45. The student ratio in our batch is roughly around 1: 7. When coming to the exams, usually we have two quizzes and one end semester. In the online semester, a faculty member will decide on the number of quizzes. The grading pattern is relative.
Internships Opportunities
In IIT Palakkad, an Internship is compulsory for the awarding of the degree. We have to apply via the Career Development Center of IIT Palakkad for the internship process. Some of the top recruiters involve Adobe, Arista, Amazon, Texas instrument, Mathworks etc. Also, there is plenty of opportunities for students to do foreign internship in reputed labs across the world.
Placement Experience
Campus placement has been good considering a new institute. The average placement package offered to the batch of 2020(2nd batch) was around 10 L and the placement percentage was around 90. Some students who want to pursue their higher studies generally don't sit for campus placements. Most of them have got admits to top reputed universities across the world.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The Fees structure consisting of Tuition fees and hostel fees. Tuition fees per semester will be around 1L while the hostel fees will be close to 26k. Also, there are a number of scholarships(MCM) and financial aids including fee wavier for economically weaker students.
Campus Life
The annual techno-cultural fest of IIT Palakkad is called Petrichor. It will be mostly conducted during the spring semesters. We have a number of clubs where we could learn new skills. Some of them include Robotics, Coding, Data Analytics and many more. The infrastructure is pretty good. Hostels are equipped with 2 bedded and 3 bedded rooms with 24/7 WIFI/LAN facilities. Also, IIT Palakkad operates on two different campuses. One near the permanent campus in Kanjikode and the other is a temporary campus situated near Wise Park.
