CAT score as the qualifying criteria followed by UPES Interview. I chose UPES as being an engineer by profession, I wanted to leverage those skills as well, hence went for technical MBA. I had a passion for Energy Industry since I feel it is industry which is always in demand Interview mostly test on motivation to join college, why domain specific MBA.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

The course curriculum is highly concentrated on your domain, leads to a lot of core competency in related to your sector. However, business acumen, problem solving skills are not focused on. Unlike most business schools where curriculum is pivoted around case studies. The main mode of teaching in UPES is classroom lectures & Power point.

Internships Opportunities

Internships are required to be done by students at the end of first year. However, it has to be taken up by the student themselves and not provided by the college. Thus, it depends on the network students have access to and often the student have to settle for less interesting opportunities.

Placement Experience

1.5

College is not able to provide ample placement and job opportunities to the students. Also, college focuses only on the quantity and not the quality of jobs i.e. they are not concerned about the packages, companies, profile etc. Though college focuses on domain specific courses but it has not able to create enough market demand for the same.

College Events

1.5

College do host various technical and cultural fests through out the year but lacks the magnanimity in terms of participation from colleges all over India. However, students are not promoted to participate in national & international business based competition.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions

The college offers encouraging scholarship to meritorious student, top 3 students in each batch are awarded with support in fees.

Campus Life

3.5

Campus life is peaceful as it is situated far from the populated city, beneath the foothills of great Himalayas. It is at a peaceful & highly picturesque place. Every students heart would always belong to the campus. Student from diverse backgrounds from pan India & even in exchange students from abroad study here.

Alumni/Alumna

A strong network of alumni network, since the students are passing out since 2005 therefore they are placed at high positions in power sector.

Exam Structure

College follows half yearly semester pattern and exams are evenly distributed i.e. each semester consists of mid semester exam, minor/major project, internship and final semester exam. All the above mentioned exams are strategically positioned throughout the course so as to achieve maximum learning.

Faculty

3

The college has hired some of the most experienced professionals in the Indian power Industry & teachers with specialisation in power industry. Also, guest lectures are conducted at regular intervals in the college, wherein people across the industry value chain from generation, transmission & distribution as well as ministry, trading , financing, & consulting are invited for interactions with student.

Admission:

I wanted to do management in my PG and MBA was a logical choice. Post doing my graduation in commerce, it was good to appear for MBA entrance exams and get shortlisted in the Department of Management Studies, IIT Roorkee. My reason to select this place was because of the quality of faculty, the visiting faculty coming from very reputed institutes such as IIFT, FMS, Delhi School of Economics, etc. Also, the set up was a part of the University of Roorkee, a prestigious engineering institute and an institute that offers a Degree and not a Diploma for MBA. Further, the infrastructure is by far amongst the best considering that the University got the status of IIT and additional funding for its development. Also, the place, Roorkee is well connected from Delhi and some other prominent cities of India through rail and road and also offers various opportunities for excursions to Mussorie, Hardwar, Rishikesh and various other places
