Remarks

The college offers a good social and academic environment due to bright students coming together in the campus. Each of the students is highly talented and sharing of knowledge among peers is unique to the culture at BIT. The college management is insensitive to the problems and difficulties faced by students. And, the student management is highly disinterested in promoting student activities at the campus.

Entrance Preview

I had to take AIEEE to get a seat in the college. My AIR was 8460. The reasons for opting for mechanical engineering at BIT Mesra were as follows. The mechanical engineering department of the college had a renowned reputation regarding academic excellence and placement opportunities.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

The courses offered are quite out-dated and few subjects are highly unrelated and irrelevant to what is being practice at the industries. The students have to study subjects like biology, which is of no importance to them. And, the important subjects on machine design, aerodynamics etc. is not being offered. The flexibility to choose the electives is also restricted.

Internships Opportunities

No, the college doesn't provide any internship opportunities except for a handful of companies coming to the campus to offer internships mostly for non-core branches. For an exposure to good internship, students need to approach the companies independently through their personal or professional contacts.

Placement Experience

3.5

The college offers a good placement opportunity for computer science and mechanical students. Job satisfaction among these two branches is higher due to a greater number of companies in these industries offering the desired roles on the campuses. To quote some of the top companies coming down to the campus for CS roles are Amazon, Microsoft, Flipkart, Direct-I, Paytm, Goldman Sachs etc. The average CTC would be around 10-12 lacs per annum for CS students. The top recruiters for the mechanical branch include TATA Steel and mostly the automotive companies such as Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Hero Motocorps etc.The average CTC would be around 4.5-5.5 lacs per annum for mechanical students opting for roles in core companies. Apart from these two branches, the placement opportunity has been narrowing every year. Due to the dearth of companies visiting the campus, the students end up taking a job in the IT sector.

College Events

3.5

There are not many events celebrated in the college. There are only two fests being organised. Pantheon, the technical fest organised by the college is in the monsoon semester. It witnesses participation from students in the campus and to a small extent, from the extension centres. Bitotsav, the annual cultural fest is organised in the spring semester.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network is feeble. The college still lacks a proper mechanism to reach out to the alumni, and I highly doubt, if they have the contacts or whereabouts of the students have even recently passed. There is no way a student studying at the campus can reach out to the alumni for any purpose. The institute has an alumni community but is only restricted to facilitate reunions at the campus.

Exam Structure

The exams and labs are not very frequent. Every subject will have a mid-term exam(25% weightage),an end-term exam (60% weightage) and the rest 15% can constitute of attendance, assignments and/or quizzes, at the discretion of the professor. The institute has a strict attendance policy of 75%, failing which a student will have to re-appear for the course.

Faculty

3

Some of the faculty are really excellent and have a very good understanding of the concepts. They are also adept at transferring the knowledge to the students. But, few of the faculties are highly disinterested and take no effort in addressing the academic difficulties of the student. Also, the few of faculties fails to connect the theories with the practical implications in the industries.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum exam ready for students of mechanical engineering it focuses on industrial level exposure and for other competitive exams like gate and IES with good faculty who teaches almost all concepts. There are labs for each subject in which we get real world application knowledge. Also course is updated regularly as per the requirement of industry . The course can we improved by making course more practical rather than a writing all things on practical it should include project for students. Frequency of exam is that in every 15 days there is a exam with moderate to difficult level.

7th Semester students become eligible for placements. The highest package is offered by Rubrik in 2025 of 1.41 CR(domestic) High paying jobs are mostly for SWE/SDE roles. Percentage of students getting placed in CSE/AIML is 75, ECE 69, EEE 60, Mech 58. My plans after gettting degree is to get into job sector only for a while. No such higher education plans as such.

Placement Experience:

At BIT Mesra third is like full of practice for placements and final year more of placements activities than studies. So, when all these things are in order placements obviously will be more or less certain and here they are certain only with almost 90% students are places through campus with annual placements of 8-10 lakhs per annum.

From 5th Semester onwards student are eligible for internship but from 7th semester they are allowed to sit in campus. Various companies like PayPal, Wipro , cognizant ,TCS ,Genpact ,Amdocs etc. Highest Package this year is 35 lpa and Average Package is around 7.5 lpa. Around 90% of students from circuital branch and around 80% students from non-circuital branch has been placed so far this year. My plan is prepare very smartly for campus placements and bag a very good PPO from are tech based company.

At BIT Mesra for our departments many cpre companies like Tatva Chintan, Laxmi Organics and Kanoria Chemicals were among some listed companies that came for placements. Luckily we are less in numbers and therefore 90% students from our batch were placed from here. My plans after getting the degree is to pursue masters from US.

Placement Experience:

One of my colleges best features is its placements program, which offers fantastic chances for students to launch their carrers. In the fifth and sixth semesters, students are prepared with aptitude training sessions, group discussions, and resume construction. About 85% of qualified pupils were placed during the previoes school year. Compared to core engieering fields, placements rates were marginally higher in IT branches.
