Remarks
I chose Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science mainly because my family is from Chennai. Also I did not very well in JEE. Fortunately, HITS has its own entrance exam and I was able to do well and get into my choice of program. To sit for the exam, HITSEEE I had to have a pass in (10+2) or equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and had to obtain at least 50% marks in the above subjects taken together with minimum of 60% in Mathematics. HITS is also ranked very highly - 4th in Chennai, 11th in Tamil Nadu and 30th in All India among Private Engineering Institutions, as far as I remember.
Course Curriculum Overview
Our programme bridges theory and practice, by offering courses in the recent trends of hardware and software technologies and their applications. It equips us with the fundamental understanding and practical skills required for the potential leaders of the demanding IT profession. To develop our practical skills, the majority of courses within the programme are linked with practical work. The laboratory has a large network of up-to-date workstations and computers and the network is accessible from the class rooms and student rooms through the internet. We are given individual attention by our professors and we usually work in small groups to develop projects. To improve our coding skills, the department has MoU with Codechef which provides an online competitive coding platform. We also get to be members of professional bodies such as ACM,IEEE(CS), IET and CSI.There is an exchange program with Yildiz Technological University, Turkey, Dongukk University South Korea, Malaysia Multimedia University and Ben-Gurion University and associated internships as well.
Placement Experience
My department has really good placements I am happy to say. More than 85% of my seniors got placed in leading IT companies such as IBM, Infosys, Hexaware, TCS, NewGen, Tech Mahindra etc. From what I heard the number is always rising. The average package offered is somewhere around 10 LPA, I heard, with the highest somewhere in the 30s!
Fee Structure And Facilities
Our fees is about 10 lakh for the whole course of our study. There are numerous scholarships too I have heard. These include the sports scolarship, the Hindustan Loyalty Scholarship for relatives of alumni, the Dr Elizabeth Verghese Founder Chancellor Scholarship for girl children, and even a few merit scholarships. Oh, my juniors told me about the introduction of Covid scholarships from this year as well, which reimburse part or whole of the tuition fees.
Campus Life
Campus Life is really good! We have an Office of International Affairs which take care of the semester exchanges which is really exciting! We have symposiums and conferences jointly with renowned national and international universities. There was one on aerospace engineering recently, I cannot remember the name. There are regular seminars and workshops too. Something that I particularly like are the sports events held throughout the year, they really bring out the best in me!
