What Students Say
Likes
- Campus life, it has plenty of clubs and events we can participate in.
- Placements, good placements in tech fields from the placement fields.
- International exposure, the institute offers exchange programs and collaborations with foreign universities.
Dislikes
- Gender ratio, they have 30 percent girls and 70 percent boys, management should try and make it more blanced.
- Administrative issues, they process requests very slowly and results of every semester are declared very late, they are declared 2 months after writing the exams.
- Hostel facilities, although the college and infrastructure are modern, hostel and bus facilities are not that great although they charge very highly. Food problems are very often in the college canteen as well as hostel.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curicullum is generally aligned with industry standards especially in computer science. Students get exposure in key fields like data science, AI and cyber security. The curicullum covers both the theoritical and practical component of the subject. One of the primary reasons to opt for this course are due to the growing oppurtunities and interest in cyber security. Areas for improvement might include soft skills training for the students to develop their communication and leadership skills. The frequency of exams are 2 mid sems and 1 semester exam per semester with gaps of one month between each semester.
Placement Experience
We are eligible for the placements only during the 7th semester, we are given pre placement training, mock interviews and skill development workshops. Most of the recruiters at HITS for CSE are TCS, Wipro, Congnizant, Capgemini, IBM, HCL and Accenture, others include KPMG, Deloitte and EY. The number of offers differs from company to company. The highest package ranges from 12-15LPA, the average package is mostly 4-6LPA and there are alos slightly lower offering salaries like 3.5-5LPA. PRofiles that are most offered are Software Engineer, Data Analyst and Consultant. Almost 70-80percent of the students get placed and this may also vary across departments. Plans after receiveing the degree and if not placed are to pursue higher studies or build my own startup in the tech industry and build more skills side by side.
Fees and Financial Aid
I pay 1,56,500 rupees as tuition fee. Tuition fees varies from 1,50,000 to 2,50,000 based on merit for general category students. Fees might vary for for ST/SC/SBC Categories based on government and the institutional policies. Other fees include bus fees(varies from 30,000 to 70,000) and hostel fees that varies from (80,000 to 2,75,000). In the joining during the first year, they take 50,000 as registration fees. Scholarships like merit cum means which may reduce 25-70percent of the fees. Sports scholarships play a vital role in this college, they get students from other countries who play well to this college and make them play for this college, this avails 30-100percent scholarship of the entire fees. The overall course for B.Tech CSE at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science for 4 years may range from 6,25,000-10,00,000 rupees based on the annual fees per student.
Campus Life
The college has an annual cultural fest named yarona, they also conduct programmes and talent hunts every week friday. They also conduct a lot of tech conferences. The library has a lot of facilities as it has a wide range of books from various subjects. They also have an e-library room in the library giving access to the e-journals to the students. The classrooms are well equipped with smartboards and projectors. The labs and practical learning gives a handson experience to the students helping them to learn better. The sports facilities are very great as they have spacious grounds for volleybal, basketball, football and cricket. The student life is very great as people get to mingle with other students from different departments enabling them to get more exposure about other departments. There are also a lot of cultural and tech related clubs which engage students. The freedom zone and canteens are places where students can chill and have fun with their other friends and also work with them.
Admission
I had applied to SRM, VIT, KCG and SNU. I chose this college as it has a relaxed campus culture compared to other colleges, they also have international exposure which helps us migrate to other foreign universities for a semester exchange program. I was selected in SRM and VIT-AP but was rejected from SNU during the interview session and seat limitation, I would have gotten rejected as I wasnt confident in the interview session. The admission process at HITS is simple, you have to register for the HITSEEE exam from their website and its an exam that you can write from your house, the basic eligibilty is 10+2 with atleast 50 percent in maths, physics and chemistry, they also accept TNEA exam students and give direct admission to the NRI students. The cuttoff depends on the course and category and might vary based on reservations as well. The admission experience was pretty straightforward, post the confirmation mail about the rank after writing the HITSEEE exam, there will be a counselling session where we could choose our course and department based on our rank. There is also a management quota for students who wouldnt have performed well in the entrance exam and they are charged more fees than the others.
Faculty
The faculty ratio is around 1:15, the students have decent access to the faculties. The faculties are very much approachable outside of classroom hours for clearing doubts. The mentorship is pretty great, the faculties will mentor in academical and personal ways. Students are often attracted towards teachers who balance the theory with real world applications(like cyber security), students are also attracted towards teachers who engage with students through interactive teaching and research help. Teachers who are rigid and less approachable are less liked (Priya L, a very adamant and unapproachable teacher). The curriculum is most often up to date according to industry standards and they also give more practical exposure. There is pretty good flexibility in choosing electives. There are 2 mid sems and on semester exam per semester along with lab examinations. The difficulty depend on the basis of departments, the CSE department focusses on application based and problem solving questions, the exams are generallly manageable. The exams can be cleared with minimal efforts but 10-15percent of the students might struggle due to difficult subjects. The internal assessments carry a total weightage of 50percent (15percent- 1st mid sem, 15 percent- 2nd mid sem, 5percent- assignment1, 5percent- assignment2, 5percent-attendance, 5percent-) and the end semester exams contain 50 percent weightage. The grading is relatively fair but few teachers might be strict.
Other Applied Colleges
SRM Institute of Science and Technology - [SRMIST] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
College has a lot of bad influence and fees is comparatively high when compared to other colleges.
