The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) - is a constituent unit of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Space, Govt. of India. Since its establishment in 1966, IIRS is a key player for training and capacity building in geospatial technology and its applications through training, education and research in Southeast Asia. The training, education and capacity building programmes of the Institute are designed to meet the requirements of Professionals at working levels, fresh graduates, researchers, academia, and decision makers. IIRS is also one of the most sought after Institute for conducting specially designed courses for the officers from Central and State Government Ministries and stakeholder departments for the effective utilization of Earth Observation (EO) data. IIRS is also empaneled under Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme of Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India providing short term regular and special courses to international participants from ITEC member countries since 2001.

IIRS is one of the prestigious institutes in India. in RS&GIS ASD, there are 6 faculties and 7 students in the department. it may vary according to the course. all the faculties are grade C or above scientists.

internship is available for JRF students. they get stipend of 8000 rs per month. students are selected on the basis of the exam and interview. it is a six months program. the y can work directly under the scientists and can participate in the on going projects.

The chance of getting placed in a corporate concerns from a Remote Sensing domain, is very feeble. India is still on its baby steps in this domain. The research field is the only opportunities on them are abundant.There are many government concerns who undertake Remote Sensing based research works, who are in the constant requirement of research fellows. IIRS has the reputation of providing more candidates to ITC, Nederlands as a research scholars (PhD candidates) and also the NRSC gives preferences to IIRS candidates.

72000/year is the fee for PGD program. if the student comes top in the semester end examination, in the 1st four places, they will get golden jubilee scholarship that is 8000 rs per month. campus recruitment cell is there. but placement opportunities are minimum.

campus life is great. no restrictions are there. but the all campus will be under the surveillance of CISF. sports meet, gatherings etc are carried out. IIRS provides a great library. badminton court, swimming pool, gym with trainer, parks etc are available for students.

Good knowledge about the subjects studied in graduation is must. interview will be conducted by the faculties in IIRS. there will be an exam prior to interview, those who has cracked the exam only can participate in interview. minimum of 60% in graduation is required for applying.
