Remarks
I took admission to Haldia institute of technology in COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING in the year 2019 through wbjee entrance exam by securing a rank of 7890. I have also done decentralised counselling and got a seat in JGEC in the IT branch but I left that seat as faculties and placement were not so good in Jgec IT as CSE in HIT. So I took CSE in HIT.
Course Curriculum Overview
As stated above, I was getting a seat in Jalpaiguri government Eng. College with IT branch. So I left with two options. CSE in HIT, and IT in JGEC, which made me confused then I asked myself what should I choose a better college with a slightly lower branch (JGEC IT) or a slightly lower college with a better branch (HIT CSE). So, I made my mind that I will consider a branch more than a college. So I took CSE. Moreover, I wanted to give a gate exam with M.Tech CSE. So I consider taking CSE in my BTech course. So I finally took admission to HIT with CSE. After half a year passed. I was happy with my decision. As faculties of CSE department as very highly qualified as most of them had done there m.tech with reputated nit's or KGEC, IITD, and some are also persuing their PhDs from JU, which is good and our HOD had done his phd from BIT Mesra. So I think we are in good hands now. Semester exams every 6 months and the last one month is enough to pass it. 75 students in 1 batch, max 3 batch.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, the internship is also provided but only for the students of 7th sem onwards. You have to be Highly active in your class to be able to grab one of the internships. Many meritorious students of the 7th sem of CHE, ECE, CSE are also working on many running projects of govt. of India and many private tech firms.
Placement Experience
Placement is considered to be okayish in our college. Placement offers and placement ratio for different departments: CSE: up to 90% get placed (most of them approx 60% of the eligible candidates gets placed in Infosys, Wipro, cognizant, which is a service-based company) and rest of 10% of hard-working candidates in CSE choose the off-campus placement and also gets placed in reputated product-based companies like amazon) so it's up to your level of hard work and no one can stop you from making your career bright. And the rest 20% of candidates choose to appear in the GATE exam and most of them also excel. ECE /IT /EE: the above figure applies the same here also. but in this branch the gate appearing candidates increases. ME/EIE/CE: placement in these core branches are not that good in our college and most of them had to focus on gate exam. CHE: Best branch-like CSE for placement and placement here is above 90% as most companies are nearby located. Haldia petro.chem, IOC, Exide being a major recruiter.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees structure: (almost same in all branch). 1st year: 77k (1st sem, including hostel). 54k ( 2nd sem, including hostel). 2nd year: 48k (3rd sem, including hostel). 42k (4th sem, without hostel) as I left my hostel in 4th sem. So, 12k is the hostel fee which will be the same for all the semesters. 3rd year and 4th-year fees will be the same as the above fess of those two years. Now, mode of payment: you can pay in Cash, Neft, Rtgs, Umps. As in covid days, we have to give the fees in the online portal. Now, come to the financial assignment part: Many of my friends who are from Bihar state, have their fees coming from the Bihar govt as loan. So our college is helping the students who aren't that much financially strong. And, if you filled are a TFW candidate then our college will also give a discount on tution fees by relaxing 2/3rd of the total sem fees. Scholarships are also provided to students who scored a YGPA of 9.6 and above in a particular year.
Campus Life
Social life on campus as you all know HIT Haldia campus is considered as one of the best campuses of engineering colleges that we get from Wbjee. Aryabhatta Central library ( a huge library located inside the campus with huge space inside more than 10k books, E-Journals, international journals are available. A wide but very silent space for students to read as sitting facilities are good there. Wifi is also there as mentioned on the college website. But trust me wifi of the library or the college campus is not that much good as it provides only 10MB at a time (means really). 2 wide football grounds. 1 basketball court ( not well maintained). 1 departmental store ( for all your daily needs). 1 juice store and 1 canteen (provides a good quality food). There is also a tech-fest (Prayukti). And a cultural fest (Rivera) of our college which is very well organised by our management. Many workshops and events, seminars are also organised every month (paid/free) in college.
Hostel Facilities
At the time of my admission, I opted for a hostel named the ranichak boy's hostel (only for 1st-year students), which is located in ranichak, at a distance of 2 minutes from E-Rickshaw which is not that far. As a first-year student, I considered ranichak as this is one of the two hostels (the other, Balaji hostel) which is located outside of the college campus. And I took a hostel which is outside of campus as i had heard from my friends and seniors that ragging activities take place in the hostels which are present inside the hostel, which I found very true after joining the college. And I will recommend the freshers to join a hostel outside the campus be it ranichak or Balaji, both are good. And as per my experience ranichak is much better than Balaji as you will get a in hostel mess in ranichak where you can get your breakfast, lunch and dinner meals at a very minimal cost of around 50 Rs. P5, p3, p2 (boys hostels, inside campus). Matangini (a girl hostel) and one foreign hostel are also there.
