Remarks

The administration works like a private company. Student complaints are taken seriously. You can approach the director even, he is a gem of a person. Any thing broken, get it repaired from the comfort of your room (online complaint system).

Entrance Preview

IIT JEE-(AIR-3323). The first thing that caught my attention was the location of the campus, at a stone throw distance away from the majestic Brahmaputra River, Green Campus, images on google like out of a movie scene. Secondly, great placement record, single room right from first year, aesthetic infra-structure.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Civil Engineering Department at IIT-Guwahati has the youngest and most competitive faculty comparable to the best in the world. Speaking of research, I know as a fact we made into the world top 100 varsities solely riding on our research output. We have a whole separate design department which is an aid for someone from civil. Excellent Labs, some faculties have made their mark on International platforms. The course gets reviewed frequently, although there are many areas where improvement can be made but overall I would recommend it to anybody. There are labs right until the final semester and labs are open 24*7. Personally have worked at 2-am, 4-am etc.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, there are internship/research opportunities for someone interested, but many of the student's have multiple options to chose from in their 3rd year. I know friend's who did research intern in their 1st year in the campus itself.

Placement Experience

4.5

Placements are good, their are private as well as government companies coming on campus. If money is what you are looking for and are sufficiently motivated for it than sky is the limit. Most of the students get decent jobs. I remember some senior leaving Crore+ job for masters. So, I can say that while in 1st year its important, but by the time you reach 4th year you sway more towards exploring yourself.

College Events

5

There are festivals happening all around the year, departmental fests, college fests, post graduate festivals, club's organize events. The main one being Alcheringa, Techniche ,Udgam and Advaya. One thing for sure you shall not be bored on any given weekend if just plan on attending all the events.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee Structure keeps on changing thanks to ministry of human resource. I remember our juniors paying 60-70 thousand per semester. Now, I have heard it has touched 1 lac. There are ample banks ready to give you loans just flashing your college ID. Finance should not be an issue given you have an admission letter.

Fees and Financial Aid

25% of total student strength are provided MCM scholarship. Beside it there are ample scholarship from state government, by aluminies, by government of India. I know students completing their degree with a positive impact on their balance sheet.

Campus Life

5

Gender ratio is pathetic in bachelors 10:1 in most batches. But there are ample colleges in Guwahati near campus if you are looking for beautiful girls. Recently there are students from different countries coming here to study. Its like living in mini-India. Sports, Labs are good for Indian standards but recently big leaps are being taken by the administration in this direction. There are active clubs for the interest of your choice.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

There is single occupancy right from first year. Mess food is great in some hostels and not so much in others. There is canteen and juice center in each hostel. You can choose mess of your choice. You can get something to eat late in the night too. Facilities are great both sports wise and study wise.

Alumni/Alumna

Very helpful if you approach them and get to know them. I personally support senior- junior interactions. The friends you make in the campus are going to be an aid for the rest of your lives.

Exam Structure

There is relative grading. So stress mainly depends upon the type of professor you have for the course. I remember a professor conducting an exam just to find out what type of grade scheme we will like to have.On an average there are 4 exams a mid term, an end-term and two quizzes whenever the professor pleases.

Faculty

4

Civil Engineering Department at IIT-Guwahati has the youngest and most competitive faculty comparable to the best in the world. Some faculties are utterly boring but for most you'll have a reason to attend the classes even if its at 8 in the morning. Many faculties have had their PhD's from outside India, and that shows in their work ethics and teaching. So you will have an exposure to the best of the two worlds.

The placements here are actually decent. The average package for my branch was around 13.5 LPA last year and branches like CSE, EC and EI have a higher average package generally. The campus is visited by almost all of the top companies including Google, Adobe, Facebook, etc. The detailed placement records are available on the website of the institute. The percentage of students getting placed ranges anywhere between 70 percent to 92 percent. I plan to get an M.Tech degree after completing my B.Tech course from an IIT if possible.

Many big tech companies visit during placement for full time and internship. Core companies also visits for different roles. During our placement season it happens generally after 7th semester. Generally criteria for sitting in any company varies based on cgpa and sometimes 10th and 12th marks depends on company to company generally it is 6 or 7 or 8 cgpa.
