Remarks
I did not appear for CAT or any other major entrance exams except for CMAT and CET. I got KJ Somaiya through CAP rounds of CET and this was the best college I was allotted hence took admission in KJ SIM The admission process for MMS is very simple i.e. there is no GD or PI. You get admission purely on the basis of marks secured by you in the exam and a merit list is generated. The student has to fill the college preference after which allotment takes place. Points that I like: 1. Decent peer group 2. Pedagogy 3. Placements (some very renowned recruiters come regularly for recruitment every year) 4. Brand Name. KJ SIM is a renowned college in India. 5. Campus Space - We have a huge 60 Acre Campus 6. College Events etc The thing I feel can be improved: 1. Trimester System feels a bit cramped up. The last 2 trimesters will feel like studying just for the sake of it. 2. Bring in more guest lecturers 3. Reduce some subjects. Some subjects feel like being forced on us
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is designed in such a way that it is relevant and in tune with what is happening out in the real world. Some of the visiting faculties are absolutely unmatched. I took marketing as I wanted to keep a lot of options open. Faculty: The student ratio is about 1:20. Almost all of our permanent faculties are PhD qualified and many of them are researchers and have their papers published in international papers. Some faculties use a case-based teaching approach while some teach directly from the ppt. It depends on the subject also as some subjects do not require a case-based approach. For MMS, since our course started a month late due to a pending supreme court order, our 1st Trimester exams were slightly delayed which was later covered by pacing up the lectures. From the 2nd trimester onwards, our exams have always been conducted on time. It's fairly easy to pass if you have attended lectures and did some revision before appearing for the paper. Some papers are a bit on a tougher side
Internships Opportunities
Our college provides 100% summer internships every year. College makes sure everyone has a summer internship by the end of 1st year. We have companies such as RBI, Spencer Stuart, DE Shaw, CRISIL, JPMC, Marsh, HP, etc that came for summers. The roles offered were vast depending on specialization and company.
Placement Experience
The placements in our college are up to the mark. We have elite recruiters visiting our college even in pandemic despite being a tier 2 B-School. Campus placement begins around 1 month after the beginning of 2nd year. Companies visiting include Amazon, Odessa, HCL, ITC, Citi Bank, HDFC Bank, GEP, JP Morgan, EY, Deloitte, Nielsen, SBI, Infosys, Wipro, Capgemini, etc offering roles such as research analyst, consultant/senior consultant, sales lead, associate analyst, business analyst, management trainees, etc. As of now, around 75% of students are placed and I am sure it will go up to 98-99% by the end of our course. I plan to join a reputed Market Research firm once I get a degree. I was placed through campus placements. Our highest CTC offered was around 30 LPA while the average is around 10 LPA
Fees and Financial Aid
Our fees are regulated by a government body so the college does not have a say in it but the fee if 2nd year is almost the same as that of 1st year. College does provide 2 scholarships - merit-based and need-based. I did my summer internship at HCL Technologies and currently placed in a renowned Market Research firm.
Campus Life
Classrooms have auditoria like infrastructure with mic and projector facilities. We have a huge library with a plethora of books available to borrow. Our library also has few Bloomberg terminals and related certifications to offer. We also have college wifi with speeds going as high as 200 Mbps. We also have a mess with unlimited food for just Rs. 53. Our campus has a football ground, basketball court, relay track, cricket ground, and various other world-class sports facilities. We have over 30 student-driven committees so there is always a lot of stuff happening in college.
