Remarks
The main reason for selecting FMS: Excellent placement statistics historically. Very low fees, at Rs 2.5 lakh for the entire course, which is much lesser than the 23 lakhs charged by the top IIMs. Located at a prime location in Delhi, making it easy to travel to home and back to college. That being said, there were some tradeoffs: The infrastructure is minimal. But considering it is the MBA course, it really does not need playgrounds, labs etc and hence the trade-off is justified for the low fees. No hostel facilities. This is not an issue during Covid19 pandemic learn-from-home situation but can cause inconveniences in commuting when one has to be physically present. MBA being a professional course is mainly pursued as a means of gaining a better career. There is no deficiency caused due to limited infrastructure. So, the extra infrastructure in other top colleges is not worth paying an extra 20 lakh. Overall, FMS is what I found as the best college for MBA due to its ROI & brand.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course comprises of 4 semesters, 2 semesters each year. This is unlike IIMs which have 6 trimesters in 2 years or 3 trimesters each year. Each semester has 8 courses, thus totalling 32 courses over the span of 4 semesters. The faculty are about 20 in number while the number of full-time MBA students (1st & 2nd year included) is about 500. In addition, there are executive MBA, part-time MBA as well as PhD students. So, the faculty: student ratio is likely to be 1:30 to 1:35. Though there is a relatively smaller number of faculty members, all are top-notch and highly qualified professors holding PhD degrees and the teaching methods are in line with standard practice and sufficient to impart good knowledge of the courses.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee is pretty low, amounting to Rs 48000 per semester, totalling about 1.92 lakh for the entire course. However, the fee doesn't cover the hostel facilities and we have to find our own accommodation. There are also additional exam fees for conducting an examination at the end of every semester amounting to about Rs 2000. In addition, there are MSA fees of Rs 30-35 thousand a year meant to be used for various student activities including maintenance of the various student-related infrastructure as well as placement related expenses. Overall, the fee comes to about Rs 2.5-2.6 lakh for the entire course. In addition, hostel/PG and food expense can add about Rs 20000 for 20 months of the course or 2.4 lakh. The overall expense will be in the range of Rs 5 lakh for the entire course. Considering the low fee structure, one does not need any financial scholarship or assistance, though there is some assistance available.
Campus Life
Due to Covid 19 pandemic, the entire course is being done online without one having to attend the campus. However, the campus is likely to open in the 2021-22 year whereby one will have to attend the classes physically. So, as of now, there is no relevance of campus life, sports, library etc and hence I can't comment on it.
