Remarks

Overall it was great experience. Good library, infrastructure and good teaching staff makes this college very special. Also the natural surrounding and facilities to promote sports and drama is the USP of the college.

Entrance Preview

I had applied for B.com course after my HSC exam. At that point of time there was no entrance exam was conducted. But admission was given on the basis of scores of HSC exam. I applied and got admission on merit as I had scored 80% in my HSC exam. As this was one of the best college in commerce faculty I opted for this college and got the admission on my merit. No separate exam was required.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The B.com course in general course in commerce stream.Specialization courses available after B.com are M.com , M.Phil, Phd which focuses more on research rather than B.com course. The basic commerce course is B.com and one can further explore the specialization courses mentioned above. To summarize the course curriculum is generic and not research oriented.

Internships Opportunities

When I completed my graduation in 2004, college did not provide any internship at that point of time. However now I heard, that college provides internships. However I have no clue that what is stipend and overall experience.

Placement Experience

2.5

When I completed my graduation in 2004, college did not provide any placement facilities at that point of time. However now I heard, that college provides placements and job searching platform. However I have no clue regarding the information about which companies come to campus and what was the packages offered , how many students were placed and overall experience.

College Events

4.5

Several events and festivals used to be celebrated in the college viz. Mr. and Miss BMCC. Book Exhibitions, several seminars as well as cultural programs including music concerts, drama competitions as well as various sports tournaments intra-college as well as Inter college events were organized. Programs where alumni from various fields were invited to conduct workshops for students. Seminars for Globalization and privatization and many others were arranged in the college

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fees Structure was very feasible. The course fees for B.com was approx Rs. 1500-2000 per year. So for 3 years course we had to pay less than Rs. 6000. I would say it is very affordable. Even the student from lower middle class also used to afford this. It includes library fees, exam fees, gymnasium fees, tuition fees etc. There were no hidden fees in this, all the required facilities were provided in the fees.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are numerous scholarships and prizes are distributed every year by the college. The scholarships are not only for excellence in studies but also provided for really needy students who want to pursue their career but could not pursue the same due to financial constraints

Campus Life

4.5

Gender Ratio was approx 50-50 ( male and female). There were no dorm parties / student parties. Lot of workshops were arranged. several cultural programs also were arranged. There were lot of foreign students from Shri lanka, Middle East, African Countries. Economic status of students range from lower middle class to elite class. We never seen nor heard about discrimination o any grounds including mentioned in the question.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Hostel facilities were excellent. Though I did not stay in the hostel room many of my batch mates used to stay in the hostel. PG facilities available at sharing basis Rs.2000-3000 per month per student in nearby neighborhood. All the basic amenities were available in the hostel, however luxury facilities were lacking. Rector were very helpful. sometimes we used to visit friends staying at hostel. The mess facilities also were good and were available at very reasonable rates. Students not staying in hostel could also avail he mess facilities at concessional rate of Rs.15 per head

Alumni/Alumna

There are number of alumni of the college are really leaders in their respective fields to name the few Shri.Sharad Pawar, Shri, Ravi Pandit. The association of alumni is very active and arranges various activities. The alumni of the college love to visit the college and guide the students. It is another asset of BMCC.

Exam Structure

Exam structure was not very hectic. exams were not very frequent. There were exams after 6 months and annual exam. However sometimes there were presentations There were informal quiz carried out in classrooms. We have to submit practical journals for which we have to visit industries, entrepreneurs take their interviews , also carry out and collect data relating to costing of products and analyze the same.

Admission

I had applied for B.com course after my HSC exam. At that point of time there was no entrance exam was conducted. But admission was given on the basis of scores of HSC exam. I applied and got admission on merit as I had scored 80% in my HSC exam. As this was one of the best college in commerce faculty I opted for this college and got the admission on my merit. No separate exam was required. The administration was really good ad helpful and admission process was very smooth.

Faculty

4.5

All the faculties are qualified and really interested in teaching their respective subject. They take special efforts to cultivate and liking about the subject in their students. Specially Shri Bhonde sir used to teach costing as a subject. Due to his skills and method of teaching I had not only liked the subject but could teach CS and CA students at intermediate level in private coaching class for a while. Even in routine life the costing helps a lot.

Placements in my college are decent but not very high. students usually become eligible from the final year and few companies visit for roles like accounting assistant, sales, customer service. The average package is usually around Rs.2LPA-Rs.3LPA.

Course Curriculum Overview:

One of the key aspects of the curriculum that influenced my decision to choose the B.Com course at Sydenham College was its strong foundation in core commerce subjects such as Accounting, Economics, Business Law, and Finance. The structured progression from basic to advanced concepts, along with exposure to subjects like taxation and auditing, made the program particularly appealing for students aiming for careers in finance, CA, CS, or management.

Placements society of college is just a decade old and still top companies like Zues Capital, Barclays, and Icici bank are among the top colleges that have become a part of ecosystem where 30-40 students is what each companies hires every year. Not many though as too many sections and 500+ students means getting placed even half the students can be a task where Mithibai placement percentage is 60 odd percentage.
