Remarks

There was never a bad experience. Our management was good and they were always available for any new suggestions for improvising on our existing facilities.

Entrance Preview

For the BCom course, there was no entrance exam. As it is a regular academic course, the admissions were on the basis of marks scored in the HSC (12th Grade). When I took admissions in June 1987, ours was the second batch and the asking admission cut off was only 45% in HSC.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum was well designed. It was designed by the University and the college had no role to play in designing it. However, it the curriculum was well suited for the industry, giving an insight into the actual business conditions in the business world outside.

Internships Opportunities

As our course was not a professional course, there was no system of internships. I cannot comment about the new professional courses that the college has started in the recent years.

Placement Experience

3.5

Again as I said earlier, I had done an academic course from this college. Campus selections is a practice generally for professional courses. I am sure, now with many new professional courses in the college, it might be a hot favorite with hiring companies.

College Events

4.5

During my years in the college 1988 to 1990, there were not many programs / festivals. We had the regular annual day programs. However, we used to celebrate rose day, raksha bhandan, friendship day etc. The regular religious festivals from all religions were also celebrated with much gusto.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure in those days was very low and affordable to anyone from the lower middle class. And unlike many other colleges, this college had never asked for any additional money in the name of various other activities / facilities. As the college had a very good canteen facility, we never had to spend too much money on costly food from the restaurants around the college.

Fees and Financial Aid

I am not aware about any scholarship / loan facility offered by our college. As I said that the fees during our times was very pocket friendly, I dont think anyone would have even felt the need to avail scholarship or loan.

Campus Life

3.5

Campus life was great. We had a very vibrant NSS team headed by our NSS Coordinator Kunju Sir. We used to partake in all NSS activities and also used to tie up with the NSS units of other colleges to work collectively. We were also part of NSS camps of Jhunjhunwala college, Ghatkopar. Our College NSS unit used to go alongwith them acoompanied by NSS Units of many other colleges as well, to an adivasi village named Takipatar in Shahapur Taluka, which they had adopted.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The college never had a hostel facility as all the students were from Mumbai itself. We never had any outstation students in those days. As there was no hostel facilities, the mess also was non-existent. But I am sure with the new professional courses that the college has started, there might be enough facilities to cater to outstation students if any, in terms of their stay and food.

Alumni/Alumna

Ours was only the second batch of the college. There was only one senior batch and they were very helpful in all the activities conducted in the college.

Exam Structure

During my time in the college, the first year and the second year exams were conducted by the college itself. Only the third / final year exams were conducted by the University. Yeah, the exam structure in the college was good. There were enough practice tests as well to acquaint us with the final year University exams to get us hands on.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty was marvelous. Despite our batch being only the second batch of the college, the management did take efforts for appointing some of the best faculty in the market. I still remember Raji Miss was used to take Business Mathematics was such an amazing person and teacher, Unfortunately she passed away while we were in college itself.

Placement Experience:

Placements in my college are decent but not very high. students usually become eligible from the final year and few companies visit for roles like accounting assistant, sales, customer service. The average package is usually around Rs.2LPA-Rs.3LPA.

Due to NEP the course has been more developed to the students and teachers also explain the topocs to us very clearly and the thing should be change that the timing of the paper are at morning time which is at 7:30am it should be 10 or 10:30 because this time the students get late to the paper and didnt get time to prep.

Course Curriculum Overview:

One of the key aspects of the curriculum that influenced my decision to choose the B.Com course at Sydenham College was its strong foundation in core commerce subjects such as Accounting, Economics, Business Law, and Finance. The structured progression from basic to advanced concepts, along with exposure to subjects like taxation and auditing, made the program particularly appealing for students aiming for careers in finance, CA, CS, or management.

Placements society of college is just a decade old and still top companies like Zues Capital, Barclays, and Icici bank are among the top colleges that have become a part of ecosystem where 30-40 students is what each companies hires every year. Not many though as too many sections and 500+ students means getting placed even half the students can be a task where Mithibai placement percentage is 60 odd percentage.
