Jamia Millia Islamia is a pioneering institute for Social work. The department itself is 50 year old and with a very experienced faculty. It comes under 10 in ranking of social work institutes all over India.
Course Curriculum Overview
Syllabus was according to the needs of the current scenario with a wide variety of subjects from fundamental level to the advanced level. As the field work is an integral part of the curriculum so the students are allotted 2 organisations in the entire course, one for each year with different field work objectives for each semester to get the student equipped with the ground reality of being a social worker. A 7 day rural camp is also organised after the first semester exam. Late Dr. HY Siddiqui Who was a pioneering name in field of social work was a faculty of the department. Professor Dr. Neelam Sukramani is also a very experienced and renowned social worker who is presently a faculty at the department.
Internships Opportunities
Yes Bank Foundation, Project Intern 10,000 for 45 days. The process of internship consists of Telephonic interview then a short video on why you want to be media for social change?
Placement Experience
Various organisations visited the campus like Vedanta, Empower Pragati, Pradan, Modicare foundation, Pratham etc. Around 25 students were placed in these organisation due to the COVID-19 situation the placement process got adversely affected keeping the next recruiters awaited.
College Events
There are many cultural festivals organised by the university comprises of foundation day and Miraas which are celebrated and organised by the university and other department wise fests are also organised. Like in Social work depart "Sehar" is organised once after 2 years followed by an Alumni meet.
Fees and Financial Aid
Minorities can avail the MOMA scholarship in which students can expect a good monetary return for their tution fees.
Campus Life
Campus of Jamia MIllia Islamia is green, modern and fully equipped with all Facilities like a very big library containing lakhs of books, social and science labs and a very big playground for sport activities. Wi-fi is available to the students 24 hours and campus also usue solar panels for power consumption thus moving to environment friendly practices.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel rooms are good which comes with sharing basis. For Undergraduate students 3 bed sharing room is allotted whereas for Masters and P.hd students 2 bed sharing rooms are available. There are two campus for boys hostels having 6 Hostels altogether. The student taking capacity is around 400. Hostel are tough to get and you need to have a good academic background to get hostel normally points are given on basis of academic background, distance of hometown etc. 20 marks are for the interview.
