Remarks
This college gives you a very holistic experience. We have like 9-12 subjects every semester and 3rd year is the year where you choose your specialisation. However, I’d say that it’s not as good for psychology so if you know you want to pursue psychology, go for a BA (Hons.) Psychology only. Otherwise it’s really good for Social Sciences and people who want to specialise in Literature, Media and Sociology or people who want to go into research because we get a lot of experience and learn skills of research. Its a different world altogether but it can be very stressful at times because workload is a lot and 50% is Internal Assessment which consists of assignments and 50% exams for almost each subject so be prepared for that because I was not. I would definitely suggest it if you’re not taking Psychology. We don’t even do practicals as it is a more research oriented program which is a good thing only if you want to go abroad. Check out liberal canon on instagram which is our newsletter
Course Curriculum Overview
Faculty members are extremely nice and understanding. They are very empathetic and you can approach them with anything. Psychology teachers are not so good but otherwise faculty is really good. Curriculum can be tough but interesting. You get a chance to learn a lot through internal assessment. You learn to see issues from all kinds of angles. Exams are not that tough to pass and are spaced out well. We have more assignments than tests so that is good. You get to learn a lot.
Placement Experience
NMIMS itself is a brand name so that works for us but our school doesn't have placements or a placement cell. Our dean in first year said that most of us will go out especially abroad to do our Masters anyway which is true but even with people in media backgrounds can easily find jobs on their own in Mumbai.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees is very high but that is the case for every other Libera arts college in India as well. There is no opportunity for stipend on campus but being located in Mumbai has it’s own advantages so you can always find something outside.
Campus Life
Social life is great! It’s Mumbai. The location itself had a great life. We don’t have a campus and most of us live in PG’s. But nevertheless we have a fest and clubs. We have an events committee that used to plan halloween or diwali parties for us. We have independence day celebration as well. So college life isn’t something you need to worry about because you can make friends outside your college as well as there are 6-7 school in the NMIMS glass building and we also have mithibai right adjacent to our college. The canteens are great and buzzing. It’s great!
Hostel Facilities
There is a hostel facility provided by the college but Liberal Arts people don’t really get access to the AC hostels so they only have non AC places for us which are not exactly hostels but accommodations and these cost around 1-2 lakh which they are definitely not worth because being without AC in Mumbai has no point. I would suggest PG’s or Flats. PG’s can also cost a lot though. I stayed in WISH in first year for 3 lakh in a 6 sharing room in Juhu itself. It was a good experience even though I couldn’t study in the room and had personal space issues. It was expensive for 6 sharing but its also because my place was 10 minutes walking to college so if you can travel from a little far then you can get cheaper and better places as well. I lived in another WISH accommodation which was 20 minutes walking far from college but it was amazing as I paid 3.5 lakh for one year in 3 sharing and it was an amazing apartment. All this is including food, AC, TV and house help.
Admission
They take interview as well.
Interview Experience
Yes we had an entrance which is NPAT and is common for all courses at NMIMS. Except the maths weightage wasn’t considered that much for our course. And yes there is an interview. Interview is generally taken by 3 faculty members and is according to your interests. It’s more like a free flowing conversation but the main question asked is “Why Liberal Arts?” so be prepared for that question but it’s easy because you’d know why you are taking liberal arts.
