Remarks

IMI Kolkata is located at the heart of the city. There is proper transportation and communication facility. The college ranked 45th in NIRF ranking of MBA colleges in India. It boasts of state of the art infrastructure, library facilities. On the academic front, the college possess qualified faculties. The batch strength being 189,divided among 3 sections, the faculty:student ratio is satisfactory, where each student gets attention. One of the guiding path to choose the college is its curriculum. The subjects that are taught are very much industry oriented and they are updated as and when needed. For any MBA college what stands out eventually is the Summer Internship and Final Placement. IMI-K,since its inception, has a placement record of 100% .Eminent companies visit the campus for placements. The PGDM course brings out the absolute corporate skills needed to thrive in the ever dynamic business world.Regular grooming sessions serves the purpose. These are few of the factors why I chose IMI-K and the course.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum of IMI-K is at par with the top universities of the world. It is perfectly blended according to the industry needs. Apart from theoretical knowledge, the subjects are taught along with various case studies from Harvard University. The whole 2 year academic course is divided into 6 tri-semesters. The faculty mentors caters to all the doubts of the students. They are extremely qualified and are well acclaimed researchers in their fields. The power point presentations on various topics at regular intervals are add-ons, which help the students to improve the communication and expression.

Internships Opportunities

I bagged an internship in IDBI Federal Life Insurance. The profile is Marketing and Market Research. The stipend is variable according to the amount of sales. The process of SIP starts from the month of October, with various companies start visiting the campus with various job roles. The selection is based on the interviews where the HR asks about the student's background, interests, why to join in the particular company and small details of academic concern taught till September.

Placement Experience

4.5

The companies visiting the campus are mainly of BFSI sector, offering the job role of sales and marketing. Apart from that, consulting, opeations, finance, HR roles are also offered. HDFC LIFE, ICICI PRUDENTIAL, CESC, MARICO,DABUR, KANTAR, DELLOITE, RANSTAD, RELIANCE RETAIL, MORE, BYJUS, OYO, JSW, to name a few, visit the campus. The quality of students passing out from IMI-K is good, so the institute maintains its reputation by providing 100% placement. The placement process is rigorous where each company shortlisst the candidates based on gardes, followed by aptitute test and finally interview by HR.

College Events

5

The hectic academic schedule calls for various extra-curricular activities. IMI-K holds inter college Management fest called Confero, where participants from all over the country participate. The footfall of this event touches around 500+ participants. The event ranges from fashion show to case study based competitions. Each and every festival like Holi, Diwali, to mention a few, is celebrated with great enthusiasm. All the year around, there are various fun and learning activities organised by various clubs take place in the campus . The campus of IMI-K is always buzzing with students with whole lot of activities.

Fees and Financial Aid

IMI-K provides scholarship to the students in their tuition fee for those who score 90%ile and up in CAT,XAT. Apart from that, top 3 students of 1st year are provided with academic scholarship for their performance.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The hostel infrastructure and facilities are good enough. The single AC rooms are provided are furnished with bed, cupboard, table, chair. The loving part is the balcony of the rooms which is a relaxation place for most students. The bathrooms, corridors are regularly cleaned and sanitized. The meal menu is being changed every after 2 weeks on recommendation from the students.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There are several prospects, especially peer-to-peer counseling, where you get a mentor. We call it mentor mentee program. So, there will be groups of students, and each group will have a mentor who helps you whenever you face any issues whether in real life or in your academic journey. They’re always there for you. There are also remedial classes, and extracurricular activities are included in the curriculum. You even get the freedom to choose what you want to pursue creatively, like joining poetry clubs and similar groups. Right now, I’m at Banaras University, and the curriculum here is really good. We have sessions on public speaking, how to conduct interviews, and many other practical skills. These are highly commendable because they help you in professional situations like the one I’m in now. However, I would say that teachers could be a bit more active with electronic tools like using PPT presentations or audio-visual methods instead long lecture sessions. As for exams, I wouldn’t say they’re too difficult because there are many weekly assessments and sessionals, which actually help you evaluate yourself better.
