Remarks
I've always wanted to get into the field of computer science because of its demand in the industry. For my JEE rank, NIT Calicut was the best NIT(based on MHRD rankings) in which I got computer science.Apart from high rankings, NIT Calicut has one of the best professors in the field of theoretical computer science, the area in which I'm really interested in and last but not the least the placements for CS dept are really good. The average salary is as good as any leading IIT's.These were some of the factors which drove me to take admission into NITC.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum actually went through a lot of changes during my time at NITC. Right now I would say it's pretty much very well updated and up to the industry standard.Talking about industry exposure, the placement cell is really good in bringing companies to hire from college, so if you are a talented student then bagging an internship and in a good company gives a lot of exposure. Also we get to work on a lot of open source projects as part of some courses, so we get to design and build systems alongside industry experts. All in all I would say it's a really good exposure for an undergraduate.Faculties are really amazing. I would say that's the best thing about NITC.
Internships Opportunities
I interned for Goldman Sachs, the profile was software development intern. Stipend was 1Lakh per month. Internship duration was 2.5 months.
Placement Experience
Placement dept is terrific, they work so hard to bring many companies to our campus. Our dept has the best placement rate. Every year we have 100% placements in our dept. Placement process is very simple, every company sets some preliminary tests for students and if you qualify it then further interviews are conducted and the results will be given out at the end. Most of the profiles offered were of software engineer position.
College Events
Personally I'm not really into extra curricular activities, I'm more of a book worm kinda guy,But I've seen many of my friends take part in fests and it's really good.We have 2 major fests. Tech fest: Tathva, Cultural fest: Ragam. They both are supposedly 2 largest fests in South India.
Campus Life
Infrastructure is pretty decent. Our dept has their own labs for CS students which is great. We have many sports facilities like basketball, badminton, tennis, volleyball, football, cricket ground and so on. Also we have a set of very talented coaches for each of these sports.Every hostel has a wifi facility which is pretty fast and we have a huge library which contains almost every book a student will ever need. Apart from that we also have a digital library which contains many e-books and e-journals.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel are decent. Most of them are old but are very clean and well equipped with all necessary facilities. For first 3 years we were given a 2 sharing room and for final years we are given single rooms.
