Remarks
I chose UVCE for multiple reasons which are as follows:1. It is the first engineering college in Karnataka (1917) and fifth in India. It was started by Sir Visvesvaraya himself. It was a vast alumni network considering it's over 100 years old.2. It is a fully funded government college. The fees is minimal and it admits students only through CET. The peer group is good as they have to clear CET to get a seat.3. As mentioned before the entire fees for 4 years is around 1 Lakh for general merits. It is lower for category students.4. The lecturer at UVCE are highly qualified. Almost everyone has a PHD and several years of experience. Some of the recommended books in syllabus are written by the lecturers themselves.5. The main reason to join UVCE is the placements. Circuital branches have an average package of 6 to 8 lakhs. During my year the highest was 49L. Core branches have a lower average of around 5L. Some of the major companies include Dell, HP, Royal Enfield, Rolls Royce, Textron, Rakuten, Comviva, Texas Instruments, SAP, VMware, Wipro, ABB, Cisco, Oracle, Manhatten Associates, Vedanta, Godrej, etc
Course Curriculum Overview
The syllabus prescribed is by Bangalore University. You have to refer several authors to study for the course. The faculties are great and almost everyone is a master of their field. Some of the books prescribed in syllabus are prescribed by the lecturers themselves.
Internships Opportunities
I had got internship as process engineer in textron. Stipend was 15000 per month. You get the interview after online test and interviews.
College Events
UVCE doesnt stress on attendance. It gives a lot of free time to focus on extra curriculars. There are 5 fests every year - 2 technical, 2 cultural and 1 sports ( Inspiron, Impetus, Fiesta, Milagro, Esportivo). The budget for fests are lower compared to private colleges. The footfall will be around 500 to 1000.
Fees and Financial Aid
College subsidizes fees for SC/ST. Hostel and fees are almost zero. OBC students get various scholarships. Economically backward students get scholarship from Alumni funds and CSR funds. Since fees is under 1 lakh it is possible to get unsecured loan from any bank.
Campus Life
Infrastructure takes a back seat as it's a government funded college. Its a small campus located in the middle of Bangalore city right next to the government offices and tourist locations. There is sports ground which is shared by two colleges. There is high speed wifi on campus. Library has very good collection. Equipments in the labs are old but they work.
