Remarks

To get the admission in any NIT'S, IIT'S in India , the common platform is through JOSAA only. Based on JEE Mains Score student get the admission in NIT'S and based on Jee Advance Score students get the admission in IIT'S. After completion of JEE Mains, Josaa ( josaa.nic.in) will start counselling process, in that there are will be 7 rounds( changes yearly) and 1 spot round . Based on score student should opt for colleges as priority base.if a student get a seat in 1 round in any college then there are three options FLOAT (chance to get seat in different college),SLIDE( chance to get different branch in that college only)SLIDE(seat is confirmed) . So student can choose any option till 6th round as per their interest.

Course Curriculum Overview

metallurgy course duration is 4 years (B.Tech), 5 years (B.Tech+M.Tech) named as Dual degree. First 4 years are common for both and 1 year extra for Dual degree. based on my interest i chosen this course. this all about extraction, knowing the properties of materials and so on . my class strength is approx 55 . Faculties are PhD's and have good experience in teaching mostly all are senior faculties. Academic year divided into 2 semesters. In each sem they conduct mid exam, end exams. If the student strictly follow classes then there will be doubt to fail

Course Fees: INR 200000 per year

Internships Opportunities

the major internship giving companies are Microsoft, Qualcomm etc there were nearly 150 on campus internships

Placement Experience

from 7th sem students are eligible for campus placements and from 6th sem students are eligible for campus internships. To my seniors, visited companies such as Tata Steel BSL, Aditya Birla Group, Jindal stainless limited, JSW steel coated products , Dalmia OCL, TCE . Our college has good placement history with about 90%of students placed each year Last year (2019) highest package was 42LPA by Microsoftfor 5-6 students and average package would be around 12LPA and lowest package would be 2LPA

Fees and Financial Aid

For SC/ST/PH /Family income<1 lakh --- Tuition fee is 0 and income between 1 lakh-5 lakh-- Tution fee is 1/3 fee details per semester are tuition fee-62500, others ( includes mess ,hostel)- 36500/- approx. Currently I am getting FFE(Foundation for Excellence) scholarship in first year I awarded 88k, in 2nd year- 62500. some students are taking loans also

Campus Life

our college conducts many cultural and tech fests like Vridhi, InterNit , cosmopolitan,etc. During fests students gets lots of opportunities to show their talents, skills. Central library is situated in our campus, their we can find many books, journals etc In student activity center (SAC), lots of students do their extra curricular activities, there are many clubs for dance, singing, coding, language etc students can join based on their interest. Monday morning a club is news letter for our college.

Hostel Facilities

I room they are providing one fan, bed, light, Lan connection. for 1st &2nd year students they give 2 person per room and for 3rd&4th year students they provide single rooms. Meal quality is good except monday they provide Non veg (chicken, mutton,prawns, biryani)

Hostel Fee: INR 27000 per year

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is now updated since it became a University, so its more relevant to industry now but still we have to do extra courses for coding. Exams happen every few months—2 internals and one end-sem. They are not very easy, you actually need to study to pass without backlogs

Likes

The infrastructure of each campus in the college is very pretty and it's a green campus
The classrooms are well equipped with WiFi, Smart-boards for digital education.
Also travelling from one campus to another has been made easier as buses and golf carts are provided to students

Dislikes

The crowd of students here is too much which feels too much chaotic and disturbing .
The hostel management here as they don't give importance to the major issues here.
The hostel mess food. The quality is degrading day by day

Placement Experience:

The placements of my college is good. This year 75% of the students are already placed with an average package of 8LPA . The highest package till now for this year is 22LPA. Many companies have visited for the placements and 100+ offers have been made. Companies like BNY, Infosys, Deloitte, Accenture, Capgemini, Cognizant, Bain& Company, High Radius, TCS, EY, PWC and many more of them have visited the campus.

The college campus greenery and campus cleaning management are doing really very well that is the only good part but that doesn't matter much for your career.
⭐⭐There is nothing good to mention about this college after going through all the procedures from taking admission to degree,I regret and many of my friends also regretting taking admission into this college.⭐⭐

Dislikes

They have a good well maintained cricket ground but students are never allowed there only for commercial purposes and to attract new joinee.
Staff and management are very helpful and polite only till admission done.🥲.
Hostel food quality is extremely unhigenic, no one takes responsibility after many complaints also.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum was very classical , too much theory oriented for placement point of view they will provide last 1 month or 2 months training for aptitude part rest for technical you have to study on your own.

Likes

Beautiful campus with lot's of space and with good computer labs
They conduct exam in very smoothly manner

Dislikes

Need to improve administrative building while submitting fees many students face problem
Lab session of some subjects are too long which is around 3 hrs which need to reduce for atleast 2 hrs

Placement Experience:

Placement opportunities in my college are good, with students generally becoming eligible for campus placements from the pre-final or final year, depending on the course and company criteria. The college has an active placement celll that supports students by Organizing training sessions, resume building and also mock interviews.

Have collabs with IBM, Samsung, Capgemini for RnD and NUS singapore , University of North Texas
Our college has hosted International Conferences like IEEE InGAARS 2025and Indocrypt 2025, where scientists had came from NASA, ISRO, all IITs, Foreign Universities, etc
Exposure is Good. The teachers here put efforts to teach and research. Unlike other colleges where teachers comes and roll out PPTs, here every teacher teaches on Board explaining everything properly

Dislikes

Few teachers speak in Odia accent, so it takes couple weeks to adjust
Campus is kind of small (36acres), but its good area for a IIIT, considering IIIT delhi is just 25 acres
3 occupancy hostels for 1st years (same goes for any other NIT/IIIT), but they have a option of single rooms from 2nd year

Placement Experience:

from 6th sem, students are eligible almost 100 companies visited including IBM, VISA, Infosys, DE Shaw etc. Highest is 63 LPA and avg is 12-13LPA 90% placements I may consider doing MBA if I dont get very big package

My college is best

Likes

Things I like is to good faculty, garden.
VSSUT provides the best amenities and bathrooms.
Excluding hostel & other facilities are like good.

Dislikes

The water quality is not good at all from mess side.
The drainage system is not maintained well.
The surroundings are not clean and the guarda are strict.

Placement Experience:

Some say that the celllege has better placements, but that the salary is not very lucrative. Infosys, Tata Steel, IBM, Wipro, Cisco Systems, Larsen and Cognizant, Maruti Suzuki, Adani Group. My plans are to go to better iim for mba

The professor who taught in our class they are taught is best In teaching.
They provide you many opportunities to work upon on you.
The infrastructure of college is good and huge.

Dislikes

The campus is very vast, and you have to walk for every minute of work.
The are very serious about your study and what you are doing
The gate get closed if you get came late even it's 5-10 minute late.

Placement Experience:

It's good as many company come but the placement directly depend on your study and hard work of your 4 year and a pre placement also conduct in 3rd year where you can also get placed. For placement the student should secure 8-10 cgpa for sit in interview exam.

So I choose these college over the others because of its relevant name and the hype of this college In India as It is Institute of national importance And also a government backed college and it is one of the most demanded college. So the colleges which I have applied to are DTU, NSUT, Nit Trichy, Nit Warangal, Nit Surat Kal And top 7 iits. No I was not rejected from the other college which I have applied to but the combination of branching and the college value Doesn't satisfied me for taking admission in that colleges. So the admission process for the Nit Rourkela Is that the eligibility criteria is 75% in 12th class And second criteria is to clear the entrance exam which is the JEE mains and also scoring a very good marks in it. Then by the centralised Josaa Counselling student will fill their choices ,lock and get allotments in the upcoming rounds of the josaa counselling. The ending rank to take admission in this college in the EC branch is about a 6000-7000 rank in the jee mains exam for the other state people. The Admission steps include 1)register and appear for jee mains 2) Get jee rank and register on the Josaa Portal 3) Fill college and branch choices 4) seat allotment in rounds; upload documents and pay seat acceptance fees 5) final admission after physical document verification at Nit Rourkela....Read More

Discovering NIT Rourkela

I chose NIT rourkela based on my JEE rank, as this was the highest rated college I could get.It had good placements, had a high NIRF ranking and in comparsion to my other choices was the clear winner. The admission process takes place through JOSSA counselling for B.Tech.After being alloted a college on site registration takes place followed by hostel allocation and branch admission , a procedure that lasts about 6-10 hours. Internship-first step to placement.

The course requires us to clear jee mains in which the cutoff is above 90 percentile for general category. The form is found on NTA website and fees is about 1000 rs for general category. The exam happens twice in a year and by difficulty level is pretty descent...with maths the hardest and toughest.
