Experience of studying Anthropology in Pondicherry

The structure of the syllabus was crystal clear. The professors knew exactly how to begin and end the discussion and the concepts. It is unfortunate that there was no placement for MA Anthropology gradutes. Due to this harsh reality, I was initially lost about what I needed to do next after completing my masters level. Eventually, I decided to go ahead with working on my PhD degree.

The total fees for a year would be Rs. 32,135/-. A very feasible amount for an Anthropology course that is rare to find being taught in Universities and that also, in such low amount. If I have to look at solely the figure, it may sound to side towards the expensive side but, with all the teachings and facilities provided by the university, it is worth it.

Barring the few workshops conducted, I don't recall any society in the University that was doing exceptionally well and was well known in any circuit. I think the university can improve on their extra curricular activities.

The Alumni network is connected as many come back to the university as guest lecturer to speak to the students about their career plans and future. Personally, I was delighted to know each time a politician came to college as they would give an overview about the current affairs taking place in the outside society.

I passed the eligibility criteria which was of obtaining a minimum of 50% marks in my bachelor's degree. After filling the online application form and attaining the admit card from the official website, the entrance examination was conducted. The entrance exam assessed the general understanding of Indian society and culture, General knowledge and General English which I was good at therefore, I did not find the examination to be complex.

The faculty division is of three categories which is professor and head, associate professor and assistant professor. The university made sure that the specialization of the professor is considered and accordingly they allocated the professor for the subject. This practice made sure that I got taught by the teacher for that specific subject which turns out to be their specialization.
