My experience at sydenham showed me how little I knew.

I have met people from all walks of life at Sydenham. There is no categorization for sobo crowd as such. The principal is very cooperative and there is an open door policy for students to reach out to faculty and the Principal. I haven't seen a college library staff so helpful. Go ahead and explore the knowledge in the books. Sydenham college is a great institution. I recommend every student to go ahead and opt for Sydenham. Be the crowd, don't follow the crowd.

I achieved a first class percentile to be eligible for admission at Sydenham college for the M.Com course. There isn't and 10 years ago wasn't any entrance test for M.Com students one has to complete graduation to be eligible for M.Com most students opt for M.com as it helps them in further studies abroad.

The course curriculum was in sync with that of university of Mumbai. The M.com course is divided into part -1 and part - 2 sections spanning over two years. The first year comprises of building the basics in Finance while the second year focuses on advance finance studies.The course comprised of, Strategic Management, Strategic Management, Research Methodology, Research Methodology, Economics of Global Trade and FinanceEconomics of Global Trade and FinanceFinancial Markets in India Financial Markets in India, Commercial Bank Management, Commercial Bank Management, International FinanceInternational Finance, Financial Service, Financial Service, Related Applied Component - Investment Management, Related Applied Component - Investment Management.

Companies like Duetsch bank, JP Morgan and communication companies like O&M came and the stipend varied as per industry. Financial institutions were offered a minimum of Rs. 18000/- whereas in communications it was Rs. 10,000/- to Rs. 15000/- The internship experience was great. It was competitive and helped me crack few interviews with the companies. The placement updates were timely, put up on notice boards and constant reminders were sent to us. The assistance ship by the careers department at Sydenham college was really helpful in helping me decide my career. Post the interviews, the placement cell took active interest in the feedback and provided us tips to do better. The internship did not take much time after having given the interview. After a week to 15 days, we knew the status of our results.

Since there are many Sydenham committees there are tons of activities that take place. I have listed the committees I the following question, however, I want to mention Mumbai's best and biggest festival of Sydenham college "Brouhaha" . Here I learnt how to organize events, negotiate and see so much talent. The annual festival of Sydenham college "Brouhaha" is very competitive and most looked forward to event for every student at the college. The event comprised of recognizing talent and building skills and confidence across all interests from drama, fashion, acting, debates, art, sports and so on. The kind exposure these events gave me was incredible and it was the foundation of being confident and expressive at the start of my career.

Being a government college, the fee structure was reasonable. There are no doubts about Sydenham college being the most affordable college for all strata of society. I paid about Rs. 2000 /- a year for my M.com studies.

I did not stay in a hostel as I am from Mumbai and stay with my parents. I have heard that Sydenham has good hostel facilities for their students for both girls and boys. It ensures good condition of living, affordability and safety of their students. The College provides accommodation to its bonafide male students at the Government Colleges Hostel situated right behind the college building on C-Road, Churchgate. Here one hundred and thirty students from Sydenham College get accommodation every year. It has a common room, library, reading room, recreation room, sports hall, a canteen and mess.For girls the accommodation is available at Telang Memorial Hostel, C-Road, Churchgate, and Savitribai Phule Government Girls Hostel, Marine Drive, Charni Road. However, only limited number of female students gets accommodation here.The students can apply to the College for hostel accommodation. Thereafter, a selection committee, comprising of the Principal and senior professorﾒs screen these applications, interview the candidates & recommend the most eligible candidates to the Government. The Government informs the Hostel Superintendent and accordingly admissions are made.

Sydenham has a strong committee of students. The alumni is connected on social networks and very helpful wish there was a platform like a website for alumnus.

The exams were conducted by university of Mumbai and the administrative staff at the college were immensely co-operative and on their toes to get us the hall tickets and seeing necessary procedures were adhered to. The exams were annual board exams for M- Com students.

The faculty at Sydenham college is very experienced. They know more than the books and impart lessons in life as well to us. I a,ways found them more in the library reading books and staying updates and less in their own staff rooms. Sydenham Being a Government College, the Faculty members are transferred to other Colleges and vice versa. New Faculty members join the College in the beginning of the academic year/ term.The faculty was knowledgeable ,encouraging, broad minded. I still remember how my professors went out of their way and helped me with statement of purpose letter and recommendations, transcripts and so on, when I was applying for studies abroad. They are aware, value students time and guide you to take the right choices.
