Konark's Review On Sir JJ College Of Architecture - [SJJCA], Mumbai

B.Arch is a 5 year course divided into 10 semesters. The disciplines of architecture are Interior design, Construction management, Transport planning, Landscape design, Rural and Urban planning, Architecture theory etc. The course provides a blend of practical and theoretical knowledge so that the students can learn the art of designing, planning, mapping and constructing various kinds of physical features.

Top companies such as Gaursons India, Arcop, Shilpa Architects, DLF, RSP Architects Limited, Architect Hafeez Contractor, etc visited our college during my batch. The highest salary offered was 18 LPA and the lowest was 4 LPA for the role of design architect. Roles such as Assistant professor, Project manager, Architectural designer, Landscape Architect , Urban Planner etc were offered to the students. Summer Internships were also offered to students in construction designing.

The tuition fees for one year is 8000. Examination fees of 1005 also needs to be deposited at the time of the admission. Other fees includes Library fee, Club membership fee, electricity bill, etc making a total of 8380. The total fees for 5 years is 62925 which is very feasible as it is a government college if compared to the other government colleges offering the same course.

We have workshops such as applied climatology, architectural design thesis, land-form analysis and survey, building economics, etc are taught to students every month so that they get a hold of the subjects. Blood donation camps, health camps, portfolio of drawings etc provide a glimpse of design churning to the students. Seminar on geometry and architecture is also held to discuss about the parametric design, patterns, tensile structures and development of other construction structures.

Hostel rooms are quite good and spacious. The mess food is also very good so that the students get a home like environment in Mumbai other facilities that are offered to students are laundry facilities, water supply and electricity, internet connection, parking lot, stationary shop etc. Thus I would rate them 8.5/10.

The student seeking admission need to have passed class 12th, with 50% marks in physics, chemistry, English and mathematics from a recognized board. The admission is done on the basis of online entrance exam known as NATA/JEE main. 5% relaxation is given to the students belonging to the reserved category. The students should have secured a minimum of 50% in NATA exam to be considered eligible for admission in this college. If you clear the cut off, you will be called for an offline counselling session and later granted admission.

The teachers of the college are very helpful and supportive when it comes to doubt solving part of any student. They provide us a artistic and rational bent of mind with problem solving abilities so that we flourish in the construction sector. The visiting faculty take seminars on subjects like architectural design studio, Interior space programming, structural analysis etc and give us visual representation about the estimation and costing specifications.
