Chetan's Review On Sir JJ College Of Architecture - [SJJCA], Mumbai

The course deals with providing an advance approach to the details study of architecture which includes a variety of structures such as apartment buildings, hospitals, airport terminals, office, factories, schools, houses etc. The duration of the course is 2 years in which we are taught subjects like landscape planning, contemporary processes in architectural design (Module 1 & Module 2), portfolio production and web design, research methodology, GIS Modelling in Urban planning, building information modeling. This course helps the students to find lucrative fields like country planning, state housing boards, public work departments, etc.

The areas of job include national building organisation, departments of railways, urban development operations, city development authorities, state and central work departments, town/country planning organisations, etc. The roles offered to the students of my batch were project architect, architecture professor, building inspector, architectural technician, building control officer. The average starting salary ranges from 50,000 to 2 LPM. Companies such as L&T, Eros group, DLF, Sahara group etc visited our college campus to appoint students for summer internship program.

The fees for 1 year is 9,130. The total fees for 2 years thus comes down to 18,260 which from my point of view is very less and affordable if compared to the other private colleges of Mumbai. The Hostel and mess charges, admission fees and security amount needs to be paid separately.

Activities such as pottery, painting, clay work, drama, elocution, face paintings, singing etc are organised at the college during fests season. Debate competitions and workshops are regularly held to provide a platform for students to polish their communications and speaking skills. Sports activities such as football, basketball, table tennis, swimming etc are held at our college to encourage student participation.

Girls hostel is at Charni road which is sea facing while the boys hostel is near the marine lines. The hostel are at a distance of 5-10 minutes from the college. The mess food is quite good and the dishes are prepared according to the time table as maintained by the student council. The other facilities include hot water bath facilities, laundry facilities, attached bathrooms, a good space for personal belongings etc.

You need to possess at least 50% marks in B.Arch from a recognized university, The student should have completed 21 years of age before applying for the master's program. The candidates who have a diploma in architecture are also eligible to apply. The admission is granted on the basis of scores obtained in MAH-M.Arch-CET examination. The application form can be filled by both the modes and you can pay the application fee of 800 and take out the printout of the application form after filling all the details. A merit list will be prepared based on the score and you will be called for a counselling round. Later you will be granted admission in the college.

The teachers are well trained and have at least 10+ years of experience in the field of architecture. They make students familiar with the exam pattern and syllabus so that the students get enough knowledge about the concepts of landscape architecture, planning design, environmental planning etc. We are also given assignments and mock tests to keep a track of our progress and to check whether we are managing time and covering all the topics related to the syllabus. Overall I would say that all the faculty members are very supportive and always motivate us for a bright future.
