Remarks
Overall a very nice university if you are here for only Study and get placed purpose. Although they are too strict sometimes with the rules the also focus less on extra curricular activities and overall development of a student apart from academic.75% attendance is very necessary here unless you want to re register the course or you are a 9 pointer. They could be a little more lenient with the way things work here in college.
Entrance Preview
I appeared for VIT's own exam VITEEE i got a rank around 7000 and I wanted to opt for electical and electronics engineering which I got successfully. We were called for an orientation session in either Vellore campus or Chennai campus of VIT University where we were supposed to choose our branch based on the availability.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure of this university is pretty impressive where they have adopted an fully flexible credit system, also called FFCS where the students are supposed to choose the subjects and teachers along with the venue of the class among the various educational buildings available in the campus. The curriculum is strict and we are supposed to maintain a minimum of 75% of attendance in all the subject classes. Whereas , from 2nd semester , the students of 9.0 or above CGPA are given a relaxation of the attendance and there is no minimum criteria of classes to attend for them. This university also provides a good chance of research work and researchers have constantly been publishing research papers here.
Internships Opportunities
In my university students usually apply for internships on their own outside the universities because of more exposure they get outside the college and also sometimes they are given a stipend which is not generally the case inside the university. University allows the students to also take up internship or project work under some faculty's guidance inside the University Campus as well but they are not provided with stipend inside.
Placement Experience
Placements of this college are really well and this university has also been awarded by guinness world record for most students placed from campus in a day. There are core companies and also IT Firms which come to the campus for placements. Branchwise core companies come to the campus for placements and also there are companies like Accenture, Wipro, TCS and Cognizant. You can get a mass placement , a dream offer or a super dream offer in the university also.
College Events
There are two main fests of our university, Riviera the cultural fest of 4 days, Usually in February, GraVITas the technical fest of 3 days ( Usually in september ) these two fest are held on a very big level where students from external universities are also invited. There are numerous events which takes places usually in these events from technical events, music , dance, management events, robotics , games, food and many others.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure I feel is a little expensive not much but in a small town like Vellore, if you are charging Rs.48,000 (Special Mess) for food and 40,000 for 3 Bedded AC room then yes its not affordable for all.The College fees is also nearly Rs.1,65,000 per year ( 2 Semesters ) if you have taken admission in category 1 and increases 1 lakh with every next category till category 4.So that when compared to other government or even private universities is a little too much for a Btech in EEE degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
The university offers scholarships but not loans to students studying here. But these scholarships are not based on the performance of a student in entrance exams or in university exams but they offer scholarships based on the income of the student's family if the yearly income of the student's family availing the facility is less than approx 4 lakhs per annum and the student has no standing arrears then they provide this scholarship.
Campus Life
Campus life is a little less because we students are too much into academics that we usually miss out on that part of a college. Sports facilities are available but yes not sufficient for all. Events, debates, competitions, robotics and stuff is always there in this university and there are some or the other events related to such stuff going on here. Gender ratio is quite good about this college, there are approx 6,000 girls compared to 20,000 boys in the undergraduate programs. But there is a vast diversity of students here. There are students from across the globe and from almost all states of India.
Hostel Facilities
There are like 15-16 Hostel blocks in the boys hostel campus and around 6 blocks in the girls hostel campus. The infrastructure of the hostel campus is considerably good but also depends of every block and the age of that building. There are many mess options given from south indian food to north indian and special mess and also there are food stalls and food parks available in the hostel campus. Mess food is quite good if you have opted for special mess or food parks and the quality and variety of food decreases with north indian mess to south indian mess.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is good of this college and the seniours are also very helpful in describing and explaining about the university.
Exam Structure
There are subjects with labs which we attend , on an average 3-4 labs a week and there is a continuous assessment and exam structure followed by the university. So its not usually a chilled out day rather after whole day of classes and labs we end up with quite a hectic day in the evening. There are quizzes and lab exams which are taken during class hours and then there are CAT exams (50 marks ) taken twice a semester after which there comes a series of assignments and project submissions after which we have TERM END examinations.
Faculty
Faculties are available of all types in this university there are some really well qualified faculties which have good knowledge and teaching skills but also there are some faculties who lack teaching and communication skills. Overall , they are very helpful but the common problem faced by students and teachers is the language barrier because most students are from a hindi background and the faculties are from tamil background. But still the university tries to maintain the level of faculties and also takes feedbacks from the students regarding it.
