My MA Journey

I have a personal experience with this university and I must say it with proud that this is one of the best Universities with encouraging faculties and varieties of syllabus in the course. As a student we will achieve great knowledge along with extracurricular activities involved in the college.

As I've opted for Masters in English, I must say I've taken one of the best decisions because the course curriculum is designed in the best way. It's a combination of different topics so that the students can think critically on various fields. Syllabus includes the topics such as Indian writing (one of my favourite topics), literary criticism, colonial and postcolonial literature and many more in this field. Medium of instruction in all cases is English except in cases like Hindi, Urdu ,Dogri . Masters students have 20% as internal assessment and 80%is based on external examinations. Internal Assessment is compulsory for the distance students as well.

Our university provides sufficient placements. Repited companies like HCL, Hyundai, SBI, Jammu & Kashmir Bank, etc., visits the campus every year for placements. Roles like executives, managers, HR, accountants were offered. Most of my seniors and juniors got selected for their jobs with the specialized talents. Our university also has a placement cell which builds a bridge between the students and the organisations. We have career counselling cell also as an add on which guides the students about what opportunities can be achieved and how to catch hold of them.

Fee structure for post-graduation level is affordable by everyone.each course has a different fee structure. Masters in Arts is a course for 2years . Fee during the 1st year of the course is INR7090 and general fees INR 1980 whereas during the second year of the course the fees is INR7090 only. If we have qualified the JUET examination we'll get compensation in our college fees. However as it is a Government university schemes will be launched every year with the increment or decrement in the college fees.

The College is a xentre of curricular activities. Debates on gender roles, culture and traditions,symposium, seminarson various on and off the subject matter, quiz contests, ice breaking sessions and other literary activities are organized regularly by the Debates/symposium/curricular Committee of the College. Students are encouraged to participate in State Level, District Level and Local literary Contests with an inclination to expose themselves to various situations, cultural interaction and mix with people with high knowhow and competence. College perpetually organizes various event wherein students are facilitated to take part to argument first hand information towards composite culture, civilization, heritage, and social reality. College also encourage their students to participate in and outside the campus.

Yes I've opted for the hostel and as it is a government university we were provided with all the basic necessities available. It has five hostels three for boys and two for girls.We were provided with clean drinking water facility which is the solution to 30%of the hostel issues. Hostel infrastructure is really good with good condition beds and cupboards in every room. Washrooms and bathing rooms are also clean and tidy. There is also telephone facility, modern cooking gas plant facility sports facility and even desired first aid is available in each hostel. The basic charge of the hostel is INR 2500 per month.

The University of Jammu, accredited as 'A+' grade University by National Assessment & Accreditation Council of India is one of the best Universities for Pg programmes. I'm pursuing my masters in English language and literature and I got admission based on my merits of bachelors. To get a seat for post graduation in DDE, one has to complete 10+2+3 with English literature as an elective subject or Graduation under 10+2+3 pattern in any discipline with 60% marks.

DDE, University of Jammu has the best highly qualified professionals especially my professors from English department. They are the guidelights for us and help us in the best possible ways. There are two academic faculties, Dr. Anupama Vohra(Associate Professor)and Mr. Stanzin Shakya(Assistant professor) who are always ready to provide knowledge in the best ways possible. I must say the are the treasures of knowledge.
