Remarks
The college management is very strict. The management tries to clean the campus on a regular basis to maintain its naturalness. As the college is situated far from the city, regular bus services are there on an hourly interval to the city. There are security guards at almost all the corners around the campus to observe if any unfair activities going on which protects the students.
Entrance Preview
I appeared in GATE (Graduate aptitude test in engineering) and scored around 92 percentile in the same. Then I applied to Ph.D program for direct admission after B.Tech. There are very few institutes where this direct Ph.D program is offered after B.Tech hence I opted for the same.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is designed to get a deep knowledge of the field. The initial part of the curriculum is the course work where the students have to take several courses related to get a deeper knowledge and then there is a comprehensive exam where the students are interviewed by a panel of faculties regarding their understanding. After one is done with these exams one have give a seminar on the area which he,she will work and propose a problem statement. Then after that the main research work starts of which annual progress has to be given. In my field the different electives are speech processing, pattern recognition and machine learning, speech technology, computer vision etc.
Internships Opportunities
The Ph.D students have to do teaching assistantships during their stay. The stipend has been recently hiked by Govt to INR 25,000 for first two years and INR 28,000 for next three years.
Placement Experience
The placements of the college are very good for undergraduate and masters students. However only few companies come for recruiting the Ph.D students. Most of the P.hD students try off campus job opportunities. Some of my seniors are placed in Samsung,NxP softwares,Amazon etc offering package in the range 15-30 lac, annum.
College Events
There are main two events in a calender year Alcheringa the cultural fest that is held during the last weekend of January. Techniche the techno management fest that is held during the first weekend of September.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees for Ph.D students as non hostelers is about INR 3500 per semester. It is pretty much affordable. As the Ph.D students get assistantships they can easily afford the fees.

The loan facilitates are available in the bank that are inside the campus. There are three banks inside the campus SBI,Canara and ICICI.

The best thing about IIT Guwahati hostel is that all the rooms from first year to any year student is single seater. The mess food is not that much of high standard it maintains a normal standard. The mess bill for the basic meal structure is about 2600 per month. The students can buy extra items during their food in the mess.
Alumni/Alumna
There is strong alumni network of IITG students. The alumni meets are held across the country and the students are well connected to each other. Also through out the year many alumnus visit campus and share their experience to the community in some the student programs.
Exam Structure
The exam structure is very hectic and tight in a semester. There is am Mid semester and and end semester. Depending on the choice of course the routine carries. At times a student may have to appear two exam s in one day morning and afternoon.
Faculty
The faculties of the college are of well standards. Most of them are passed from premier institutes like IITs or from top abroad institutes. Also the department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering has good strength of faculty maintaining a good student to faculty ratio.
