Narendra Patel's Review On IIT Guwahati - Indian Institute Of Technology - [IITG], Guwahati

I took GATE. My All india rank was 900. I also got selected in IIT Delhi but I always wanted to do M.Tech in machine design but I was not getting that branch in Delhi so I finally joined IIT Guwahati.

Stipened I used to get is 8000 per month and for that I had to do teaching assistantship four hour per week. They do not allow M. Tech student to do internship outside. Stipened has been increased to 12500 aprox now as per my knowledge.

Placement for our senior bach was approximately 80% but it reduced to 60% for my batch. Few companies and offered package during my time are given below, they are offering significantly higher now. General Electric Co. 6.35 lakh/ year, Tata motors- 8 lakh/year, Mahendra and Mahendra- 6.5 lakh, Cummins- 6 lakh, Ansys - 8 lakh, DRDO - 6.5 lakh, TRF - 5.5 lakh.

Fee is nominal. 25000 per semestor. You can pay your fees by collecting your stipend. Once semester fees is payed no other cast involved except hostel and mess fee. Hostel fees is just 800 Rs. For a year which is nothing. Mesh fees was 2000 per month which revise time to time.

Do not require any loan for fee payment as such but you can buy laptop and other study material required and you can easily get permisson from HOD for it.

Not a strong network for master student but Alumni network is very strong for bachelor students.They organise lot of get together to keep connected.Alumni also inform to us about various internship and job opertunities available outside.

Lab are not very difficult but exams are very hectic. You dont get any holiday between two papers. They are continuous. Sometimes two exams in a day so choose your electives carefully.

Faculties for fundamental courses are very good. They are expert in there subject and well experienced. There research area are well defined and if you do project under them you may not find any difficulty in selecting your thesis/project topic. They do have good funding to support your project. Faculty for Maths, FEM, Rotor, Vibration and composits are very good.
