Priyesh Sinha's Review On IIT Guwahati - Indian Institute Of Technology - [IITG], Guwahati

IIT guwahati was the platform that gave me a new life.

IIT JEE my rank was 1916 at the time of of counseling, i wanted to take mechanical engineering for my rank, IIT guwahati was my best option hence i took technical engineering in IIT guwahati.

An all-round curriculum to develop each student not just as a technical professional but as one who has an around personality to fit in the professional world. Outside of the regular courses there were plenty of research opportunities, electives in humanities, economies, literature etc. Further there were plentiful avenues for student exchange, internships, paper presentation, conference participation etc.

Stipends during college internships was rare. I did my internships outside of IIT guwahati my first internship was in national Institute of oceanography in goa during the end of my second year my 3rd year internship was in portugal.

Excellent job opportunities more than 80% of the batch was placed a number of government companies like NTPC, IOCL, HPCL, ONGC, BPCL, DRDO and MNCs such Microsoft, Google, Cisco, Schlumberger, Shell etc visited the campus.

The technical festival was called techniche and the cultural festival was called alcheringa. There were one of the biggest technical and cultural events in the north where plenty of colleges participated.

The fee structure was feasible the semester fee was less than 40K and the hostel and mess fee was manageable. I still miss the paratha and dosa that we got on sundays.

The IIT provided Merit cum means scholarship few of the states provided there own scholarship. Further there was an scholarship for Institute Rank 1.

It was awesome there were plentiful extracurricular activities right from technical to cultural and sports. Robotics was a hot favorite while multiple events in alcheringa has their own glamour. IITG participated in the annual Inter IIT sports meet.

The hostel were new and one of the best one compared to other IITs all rooms were provided on single basis.

The network of senior students and their interaction was good. However being a young IIT alumni network was not developed enough. However during the years lot of efforts have been taken to improve this.

There exams and labs has a descent frequency to keep the students on there toes and never to lose focus from studies.

The faculty in the college at that time was was relatively young compared to other IITs but bright and hard working to cater perfectly to student needs.
