Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is detailed and requires us to complete 5.5 years of education and training. This includes the 4.5 years of MBBS and a 1 year compulsory internship, which is paid. Syllabus provided by MCI is followed strictly.
Placement Experience
In ESIC, internship after MBBS is a must and you have t do it in-house. Post that, if you want and have sufficient marks, you may even opt to be a house surgeon in the college which will pay handsomely and also allow you to lodge here.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is varied for students. Those who have taken admission via NEET will pay Rs 1,18,000 every year. Apart from that, if you belong to a reserved category, the fee is Rs 24,000 every year. I may seem steep to many people.
Campus Life
I had come here from a different state and I must say I have never felt discriminated against, even though I do not know the Tamil language. There is a good atmosphere of tolerance and healthy competition here. The college also encourages us to go for co-curricular activities and as such 2 research projects from the college have received press coverage!
Hostel Facilities
I had opted for the hostel, and I still live there though I am an intern now. The hostel charges Rs 28,000 per year, which is a bit pricey. The mess is purely vegetarian. However, the infrastructure is good and three people share a single room and washroom.
Admission
I am from the state of Maharashtra, but since I could not crack a better college with my state entrance exam, I decided to go with the best college I could get into with my AIPMT score. ESIC Chennai is well reputed and I had to go through two rounds of counselling to get admission here.
Faculty
The faculty is one of the reason why ESIC is so revered in its field. They have taught us students different ways of diagnosis and analyzing symptoms to give a correct diagnosis. These are the lessons I will keep in mind for the next 40 years of my career.
