Remarks
It's located in a quiet place outside the city which provides a calmer place for studies. The teachers for my course have a lot of experience, knowledge and fortitude is what they teach and how they teach engages the students with a lot of discussion and questions and answers. They also refer the students to reliable and well versed secondary sources when the students are in doubt, they will explain. The library is good. The sports facilities are there with fields and courts. The hostels can be kept better but they are more than enough for students as they provide food and shelter at a comparatively low price. The admission process is fast and does not take long. You can apply and check their website to see whether you've been selected for the course or not. The actual admission process is done in one day including payments and counseling. It's outside the city and therefore reduces the distraction of the city, creating more academic spaces.
Course Curriculum Overview
My preference is in literature and this course suits my preference. It covers a lot of the fields in literature spanning from related histories to culture, economic conditions, industrialization, religion, wars and so on. There is a general ratio of 1:18 teacher: student ration discounting research scholars who don't teach full time. Except for research scholars, the faculty have their doctorates and decades of years in experience, which undoubtedly adds to their experience as teachers. They provide reliable secondary sources and have access to books and literature which were not known by students prior. The exams are timely and conducted in well. The difficulty of the exams does not solely nor highly depend on the teachers at the Masters level. The students have to work hard to pass but that just means educate yourself properly with the teachers guidance and you'll do fine. If you don't work hard, you won't pass. That's a given. The teachers treat the students without preference.
Placement Experience
I have not looked into placements as my goals are not there. I plan to give my NET/JRF exam for which I am eligible to do so, since my first year.
Fees and Financial Aid
Since it's a government University, the fees are lower compared to private universities. Mine rounded off around 11,000 for my first year. And there are lower fees for SC/ST groups and other OBCs. There are PhD seats available under the guidance of professors for which you get stipends. JRF and SRF seats pertains to this category.
Campus Life
There are fests conducted by the tourism department which I took part in. Dance, singing, poetry, painting, cooking competitions l among others are present on the campus. The library is well maintained. It has research papers, books, academic journals and magazines, various newspapers, computer facilities, and you can access it online. The classrooms have a blackboard and can be fitted with projectors if and when required along with a media room set aside for screenings. Microphones and speakers are present in the department which are readily available to students when required. Sports including discus throw, track, hockey, cricket, basketball, football among others are there on campus.
Hostel Facilities
Two beds Two wardrobes Two tables Two chairs These are provided as furniture for for students in one hostel room in the boys hostel There is a fan and two plug points for two students. The food facilities are there with monthly payments for it which range around a reasonable ?2800 per month. The meals are veg and well prepared. There are three meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) provided each day along with snacks in the evening everyday. Daal, samber, rasam, vegetable curries, curd, rice are all staple food. There is dosa, roti, tea, coffee, badaam milk for breakfast. You can apply for hostel and the results will be uploaded on the university website. Preference is given to out of station students.
