Remarks

It was the only state government run engineering college. So it was pretty obvious that the cut-off and competition to get into GCET was more than any other private college in the state. Right from the reputed and experienced faculty to the soft fee structure of the institute, it was a go to college for me or anybody else in the state. Upon joining, i opted for the mechanical engineering course because that had been my dream course, if i was to go for engineering.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course syllabus is set by the Jammu university from time to time. It was quite updated with almost every college in jammu following the same syllabi. Regarding industrial exposure, a lot of one day industrial visits and sometimes tours were arranged by the college free of cost. Almost each and every tour or visit or any other activity in GCET was free of cost and funded by the government. The faculties were quite experienced and polite. Siddhant jandial sir from mechanical engineering department was my favourite though.

Internships Opportunities

I recently got an onine internship with Springfield Olympids Private Limited, through Internshala. The stipend they are offering is 3000 during the course of 7 days. The procedure is quite simple. You go to the internshala website and apply for the internships of your choice. Wait for the response from the companies. If you get selected or rejected, they will let you know in both cases.

Placement Experience

1

The one area that the college is lagging, is the placements and job oppurtunities. We dont get much placement oppurtunities here. Though some companies do visit the college for recruitment drives but the packages they offer are just nothing. TCS, Wipro, Lido learning etc are some recruiters.

College Events

4.5

Our college holds different events and extracurricular activities both cultural and technical. These include: The Republic day event, the Holi festival, the Independence day event, Gandhi jayanti event wherein different debates, speeches and poster making competitions are held, the engineers day, the childrens day the Diwali fest. Plus there is one technical cum cultural fest that is held every year in the college, the NCEEITET(National Conference & Exhibition on Emerging & Innovative Trends in Engineering Technology) jointly organised by GCET, Jammu and Indian Institute of Technology(IIT), Kharagpur. All the events and fests see a major participation from everybody and sometimes other coleges too. Around 400-500 students and faculties are present on an average in the events.

Fees and Financial Aid

Although i didnt avail any of the scholarships but my some of my friends did. The one good scholarship i would say is the minority scholarship awarded to the muslim students and one Schedule tribe scholarship provided to Pahadi speaking students.

Campus Life

4.5

The college infrastructure was quite good and many up to date facilities like wifi and higly equipped labs were provided. The whole campus was wifi enabled. There was a dedicated building for the library in the college campus. It was quite up to date and looked mesmerizing to the eyes, both from outside and inside. The collection of books available was also satisfying covering all the course related books for all semesters.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

The hostel rooms are well equipped with modern day facilities. Though there is a problem with sharing rooms, but single rooms, you cant complain much. 3 students share a sharing room. The average rentals are around 5000-8000 per semester including the hostel fee and mess charges. The hostel facility is easy to avail for anybody, but preference is given to outsider students i.e who are not from the same city as college.

Placement Experience:

Students from the uth and 8th semester are eligible for placements. Companies offering packages about 10 lakhs come in the college. Out of 10 ,at most 5 students get the placement easily from the campus.

Placement Experience:

From 7th semester, students become eligible for campus placements. Just one company visits and that too isn't up to the mark. Its PISOFT. The highest average package in our campus was 6lpa earlier. Now that also doesn't exist. We have to go for off-campus placement. Only 4 students out of a batch of 63 students. After getting the degree.I will apply in a company for a job via off-campus placement.

The course of CS cyber security is one of the leading course and need of today's modern world. Cyber crime is increasing with each passing day so demand for such course will never go down. For real world application students are given practical knowledge with well maintained computer labs. Students are motivated by organising competitions like hackathon, Techfiest etc so that they work on innovating new ideas. Teaching methods are very practical. Every topic is taught keeping thought of future competitive exam. More time is given on teaching the skills be it coding or assignments.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course as I completed my diploma in mechanical so I pursue this and talking about the faculty-student ratio, it is quite good as 2 teachers are there for every subject, so in a recent update, they made it compulsory for every teacher to have an M.tech degree and the teaching method is quite good and some of them are really good, so the exams were taken by Jammu University, the timing of sessional exams are taken every 1 and half months and it is done twice in the semester but the result took a lot of time.

College is quite good academic-wise but there is a lack of sports facilities. And the hostel facilities and the college fee are quite expensive. The college infrastructure is quite good and mesmerizing. College teachers are really very helpful.
