Anonymous's Review On Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore

I wanted to do a different course. I applied for universities abroad but my parents didn't allow me to go abroad. I visited the college and it had a good atmosphere and quite a good reputation. I had wished to do aeronautical or marine engineering from my childhood and Amrita was one of the few college that offered the course and had some reputation and one other major reason is that it is close to my home town tirupur, so it would be easier for me to go home during holidays.

I particularly feel that the course curriculum is fine but i don't have the same opinion on the faculties. Some faculties are really good but there are a few who doesn't know how to teach properly. The syllabus is updated every few years but there are no industrial visits of any type. I feel that Dr Shantanu Bowmik is a very good faculty.

They don't provide internship, we have to find it on our own but they will take credit for it and sometimes they won't allow you to go for internship. A classmate of mine got an internship in IIT Kanpur but my HOD didn't allow him to fast-track course to join the internship.

There are lot of placement offers but the college doesn't allow a student to appear in placements once he is offered a letter from two companies. The alumini network is not that great as they have just started to from one.

The campus life was fine but the college doesn't show much interest in extracurricular activities and events. The college has a tech fest but have a lot of restrictions. They treat event as some even by a saint. They put stupid conditions like students should dance to religious songs and they show the tech fest as a national tech fest but they don't allow to invite some college and don't allow students to participate in other institutions tech fest.

The scholarship offered is very few but the college offered full loan for students with the help of SBI Bank. The main speciality of the loan is that they provide it without collateral, which to my knowledge is not offered elsewhere.

The campus has good infrastructure. Few sports are given more preferance than the other and they don't support students to participate in sports competition. The library is good but the wifi is too slow. Few labs lack some equipment.

I was in hostel for 2 years and the infrastructure in good. The hostel for first three years is sharing between 4 students and it's single room for final year student and master students. They allocate your roommates.
