Entrance Preview

I took their entrance exam in which 70,000 students gave the exam and 260 were selected. It was a highly reputed college and required above 60% academic performance in 12 th class to apply for the exam. As my maths marks were not good, I decided on this institute.

Course Curriculum Overview

I chose the mechanical engineering as a specialization and industrial engineering and work study were my electives. I designed a robotic gripper with 3 degrees of freedom which was a first in that year.

Internships Opportunities

I did my intership with L&T Mumbai though I got it through a personal contact. In those days you had limited opportunities for intership and it was optional and not graded.

Placement Experience

All the major companies like TISCO, TELCO, ACC, HM, stc came and placement was about 70%. Now I believe students get 2-3 jobs and all the big wigs- you name them they are there in the placement sessions.

College Events

There were some festivals, films, etc. Students went to all major Indian student festivals too.Music shows through spic-macay and rock shows were held regularly. Festivals were celebrated together and each hostel had its own events sometimes.

Fees and Financial Aid

The sc/ st and backward regions people get assistantship and there are scholarship schemes though I have not availed any one.

Campus Life

The ratio of boys to girls was 1:7 as there was just one hostel for girls. They had a strong extracurricular team- debate, ham radio club, fine arts, music shows, dance etc.

Alumni/Alumna

They have a strong alumni network called BITOSA that has international roots too. BIT alumni are reasonably well connected and there is a family like bond due to the great experience of studying in BIT Mesra.

Exam Structure

It was a semester system. 2 semester in a year for 4 years. 4-5 theory and 4-5 practical subjects each semester. 2 quizes in a semester each of 15 marks. Final exam of the semester was of 84 marks- you could score max 70 marks in final exam and the rest 30 were quiz marks.

Faculty

Excellent faculty from top indian and global institutes who really helped and guided the students. Very high standards of academic excellence. Project guidance was very good and students were counselled in case of sub par performance on a personal basis.

Overall Review of NIT Jamshedpur

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum exam ready for students of mechanical engineering it focuses on industrial level exposure and for other competitive exams like gate and IES with good faculty who teaches almost all concepts. There are labs for each subject in which we get real world application knowledge. Also course is updated regularly as per the requirement of industry . The course can we improved by making course more practical rather than a writing all things on practical it should include project for students. Frequency of exam is that in every 15 days there is a exam with moderate to difficult level.

Placement Experience:

7th Semester students become eligible for placements. The highest package is offered by Rubrik in 2025 of 1.41 CR(domestic) High paying jobs are mostly for SWE/SDE roles. Percentage of students getting placed in CSE/AIML is 75, ECE 69, EEE 60, Mech 58. My plans after gettting degree is to get into job sector only for a while. No such higher education plans as such.

Placement Experience:

At BIT Mesra third is like full of practice for placements and final year more of placements activities than studies. So, when all these things are in order placements obviously will be more or less certain and here they are certain only with almost 90% students are places through campus with annual placements of 8-10 lakhs per annum.

According to my perspective or point of view students initiate preparing for placement cells in 3rd year ( 5th semester). The highest package of our college is 14 LPA And average package is 3.4 LPA. Approx 72 %students got placed in different different companies like tcs, wipro, accenture etc.

A Genuine Review

Placement Experience:

From 5th Semester onwards student are eligible for internship but from 7th semester they are allowed to sit in campus. Various companies like PayPal, Wipro , cognizant ,TCS ,Genpact ,Amdocs etc. Highest Package this year is 35 lpa and Average Package is around 7.5 lpa. Around 90% of students from circuital branch and around 80% students from non-circuital branch has been placed so far this year. My plan is prepare very smartly for campus placements and bag a very good PPO from are tech based company.

Placement Experience:

At BIT Mesra for our departments many cpre companies like Tatva Chintan, Laxmi Organics and Kanoria Chemicals were among some listed companies that came for placements. Luckily we are less in numbers and therefore 90% students from our batch were placed from here. My plans after getting the degree is to pursue masters from US.

I had NIT Raipur Chemical Engg, rejected it because I didn't like the campus amenities of the same, zero sports facilities, they play Football on a Red Soil literally. I got this in CSAB and hence it was a better ranked college than NITRR, i've heard of people opting a lower preferred branch in BITM over a branch in NITRR such the brand value of the college. I scored pretty avg in JEE 58k rank so wasn't eligible for all the clgs anyhow. Admission process is pretty simple JOSSA and CSAB. Admission experience is obviously good because why would a clg not welcome a laxmi lol jk....Read More

Actually This college was in my list but as a last option as i was getting RVCE and BMS few reputed colleges of bangalore but my parents insisted for this college as this college carries a good brand name of BIT,Mesra. Yes, Due to my not so good performance in JEE Mains I did not get the college i was hoping for. A student should first appear in JEE Mains and score a good percentile to get in to this college.
