College Events

5

There are two major events in the college - GraVITas and Riviera. The technical fest is called GraVITas which is held in the Fall Semester. The various technical clubs and chapters organise different kind of technical events, games, seminars and workshops. It is conducted on a large scale sponsored by many big companies. The cultural fest Riviera is reputed to be one of the best college fests of the country. The cultural clubs such as dance, music, art, literary, sports clubs organise a lot of interesting events. The NGO clubs make handicrafts and set up stalls in the college to sell them. The profits earned are contributed for the welfare of the society. The VITMUN conducts Spotlight which is a panel discussion event. Celebrities and experts from various fields are invited for it. The Riviera nights are thrilled by the Pro-Shows. Famous singers, rappers, comedians are invited from the film industry to perform and entertain the large college crowd. The pro-shows nights are held for all 4 days of Riviera. This time Sid Sriram, Zakir Khan, Benny Dayal, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunburn DJ Seek and DJ Hanna Shine were invited for the pro-shows nights during Riviera.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The Institute recently got the status of Institution of Eminence (IoE) by the MhrD Govt of India. So the tuition fees are supposed to get decreased as per the IoE norms. As of now the fees are different for every student based on the Category he/she came from. The Categories are again based on the VITEE ranks. The B. Tech CSE fees for Category-1 student is Rs 2 lakh. For Category-2 it is around Rs 3 lakh and so on Rs 1 lakh increments every time Category increases.

Fees and Financial Aid

the college offers for only backward people for scholarships and there is no scholarship for the higher caste people's

Campus Life

5

The Gender ratio here in VIT is very good as compared to different colleges. M:F ratio is around 4:1. There are students who come from all across the country and from abroad too. The student diversity is huge, they belong to different places and speak different languages. This college is very conservative college and is intolerant with regards to gender. The main gate in-time and hostel in-time for girls is earlier than that of boys. For the first 4 months after joining the college, the authorities don't allow the students to leave the college campus. If they want to leave for some reason they will have to take permission from their proctor, get him the affirmation of parents to approve the request and then get the permission from the warden of hostel. The college and hostel authorities are weird and strict. The college allow the girls to go out on weekends only for 4 hrs a day and that too with permission of the girls' warden/proctor. The entry and exit from the main gate is biometric based, and many a times they may stop out biometrics and detain us within the campus. It's like house arrest. The freedom given to the students is 0. The college conducts no official student/dorm parties. Even during the Riviera cultural fest concerts, there are barricades which separate boys and girls so that they couldn't dance and enjoy together. There was a Silent disco conducted by a club and in that too the boys and girls were separated in the hall by a barricade and a security guard kept a watch on everyone. There are overly strict anti-PDA rules in the college. There are Red-tag security guards installed in the college whose duty is to be a vigilante over the students. Even if a couple is walking together, that security guard may get pissed and whistle at them, humiliate them and snatch their ID cards. The college has no student council and anyone who dares to raise his voice against the strict college rules are condemned and punished by suspending and rusticating. They justify this by saying that any kind of defamation to the college will not be tolerated. The students are afraid even to write their views openly on quora, so if they ever write anything against unjust college rules they do it anonymously

Hostel Facilities

5

The hostel infrastructure is very good actually. All types of rooms are available. AC/Non AC. The room sharing are also of various types. 1 bed, 2 bed, 3 bed, 4 bed and 6 bed. There are two common bathrooms and toilets on each floor. There are a number of hostel blocks to accommodate all the students who take admission. No student is allowed to stay as a day boarder unless their parents are living in Vellore. The rooms are well lit. Furnitures like chair, tables, almirahs/wardrobes, mirrors are also given in the rooms. There are various options for food. There are different mess to choose from. Veg, Non Veg, Special. There are different caterers too. So fooding has a lot of options. Besides there are cafes, canteens and shops all around the hostels.

Alumni/Alumna

this college is one of the best, no ragging, seniors will interact with the best way gives the suggestions, will play, study, eat, and enjoy everything in the college

Admission

There is an entrance examination called VITEEE. There are exam centres all across the country and abroad too. The results are announced after a few weeks. The students and parents are called for the counselling. Counselling is based on the VITEEE ranking of the student, and different engineering branches are given according to the ranks. I chose Computer Science Engineering because of my personal interest in it. Also, there are various categories. The top rank holders fall in Category-1 and so on. Fees for category-1 is less than the others and it increases progressively as the category number increases. If a student fails to get a desired branch due to a poor rank, he/she can still get a seat in that branch by getting admission through higher categories (2, 3, 4, 5) and paying more.

Placement Experience:

Around 40% to 50% of students get placed in entire college. It is totally based on the skill of the student if students has very good skill training and placement officer also offers to apply for companies which only takes skilled students the college is totally computer science and only one section has ECE which is comparatively has less placements compared to other deparments since there is no computer science background this is the drawback for taking Electronics and Communication but if students are skilled in the Electronics backgroung Veda IIT which provides internship and job oppurtunities in VLSI and Embedded Systems but the student has to be a skilled person in the electronics subjects.
