Remarks
College management has some very good senior and knowledgable members (both teaching and non teaching staff). They are always the pillars of the college. Professors will not just help you with your studies and career but also with your personal life. And they will also support you after your studies with your career and higher studies.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum was a combination of thoery and real life practical presentations and projects. Following the syllabus of Mumbai University, we had 6 semesters in span of 3 years. In the last year of the course, we had a project called "Black Book" in which we had to do a research analysis on any one company. There was a 5-6 days industrial visit organized once in every year.
Placement Experience
I was myself a part of the Placement Cell of my college. SK Somaiya has a student run Placement Cell. We organized and arranged many seminars and conferences for students betterment and for their better careers. We also organized a one week Career Fest (Job Fair) where we invite 30-40 companies to provide internship/placement opportunities to college students. A few reputed companies who visited our campus were Aditya Birla, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, Capgemini, Reliance Jio, hour Sutra, Infosys, HDFC Bank, Mahindra and Mahindra, etc.
College Events
Career Fest (Job Fair) - 1000 footfalls approx. Participation of students, companies, speakers, etc. Around 30-40 companies participating to provide placement/internship opportunities to students. Zenith ( BMS Fest) - 800 footfalls Maker Mela - All thouroughout Somaiya campus combining all institutes of Somaiya. Media Tech
Fee Structure And Facilities
My course fees was approx 20-25k per year. We did not pay any additional fees except industrial visit fee. The college provides us with a break up of complete fee structure via fee receipts. It includes library fees, IT fees, etc. Governement courses like BSC, BCom, BSC were quite cheaper ranging around 5-6k per year.
Fees and Financial Aid
Yes, college did offer schholarship opportunities to under privileged students (eg. Sc, st, obc) There were also travel conveyance upto certwin limit for students travelling from far away places. No, I did not avail any scholarship or loan.
Campus Life
The gender ratio was one of the bests at this college. Almost equal number of girls and boys in almost all the courses in all the institutes of Somaiya. There was enough support provided by the college management to participate in college fests, extra curricular committees, etc. Sometimes, there were attendance concession also given to students participating in college fests and activities. There was also a committee called NSS which worked towards social activities towards the society.
Alumni/Alumna
Yes, the college definitely takes care of its alumni. Alumni are invited for all college programs and events. The senior students or alumni are always friendly and helpful to their juniours. My seniors had always helped me and guided me in my journey of bachelor course. Be it projects, extra curricular activities, assignments, etc. they helped me in everything.
Admission
I had applied on the Somaiya website for the course. There were 2-3 phases of admissions. Each phase consisting of 3 merit lists. I opted for this college as it is one of the prestigious and good ranked college in the city and also nearby to my house. I was very much interested in management that is why I opted for this course called Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS).
Faculty
We tentatively had 5-6 lectures in a day of 50 mins each. There were a few teachers who were full time (inhouse) college professors and a few of them were visiting faculty according to their specializations. Each professor holds a master/specialized degree or certificate in their areas. They all were very much student friendly in delivering the knowledge to the students.
