My Review

I would like to conclude my review with the taught that if you want something, you wil have to sacrifice something. If you want a college with good reputation and very reasonable fees then you have to sacrifice your campus life. I would also show my concern that there are many colleges with a good campus but stands nowhere in front of goenka, so please if anyone from the management is reading this provide a good campus to this college as the college and students deserve it. You can be assured about your studies here for sure and there will be great socializing at the premises with your batch mates and seniors as well. Have a great college life ahead.

As I am in first year while writing this review so I can provide you a fresh view of the course and exam structure. For under grad it has bcom hons in financial accounting and for post grad it has mcom (i dont know about post grad so much so I will talk about under grad only). The course is moderate and more on a harder side as well.

As I have heard college placements are average or at the lower side with 10 students only being placed in EY and Deloitte which are reputed firms and around 30% students being placed in all other firms. The package at ey and Deloitte were very impressive (taking into consideration that they made the students do MBA at top institutions at the companies cost). Moreover no one expects a job just after under graduate but if you want one it will range from 2lpa to 5lpa. Placement is open for everyone and most are placed till the end of 5th sem only.

The college hosts one 3 days fest named quest which you will enjoy a lot trust me. Being the fest of goenka College, quest is highly rated and hosts a lot of events from fashion show to business management, from non fire cooking to t shirt painting, from solo singing to group dancing, everything you can think of. Moreover there is an annual sports day of Calcutta University in which College takes part and table tennis tournament and carom tournament is held at the college premises. Also a founders day is held and some festivals lie holi and saraswati puja is celebrated by the students union of the college. Participating is very easy as you only have to give your names to students union and apper for a prelims.

The best part of the college is its fees. It is so so so reasonable that every kind of student weather rich or poor can afford it. It has a fees of rupees 85 per month which sums up to around 1200 rupees per year which is very very affordable. It has a admission fees of 5 rupees and liberary fees of 5 rupees. Thats not a joke it is true my friend. Apart from this the fees is paid as per the semesters i. e 2 installments a year. There is a exam fee of Calcutta University which will be around 500 rupees and thats all you need to pay as compulsory.

I didn't opted for any loan as the college has a very nominal fees. But Yes, there are several scholarship available for backward communities and girl child. But you will have to grab them as they will not be informed from announcements.

Gender ratio is well maintained with nearly 50% male and 50% female (this data is not accurate as it is just a overlook of the students). But here comes the catch for you, if you are thinking for a great, wonderful, amazing, intresting campus life then buddy pack your books and find some other college. There is absolutely 0 campus life as the college has a baby like campus size with a single 5 floor tall building and a sitting area in front. No play ground is there and no open field sports a re played here. Talking about the canteen it is closed since I joined and has no signs of opening soon in near future for sure. Speaking more about students te students of every race, religion, cast are treated equally here with no scope of any kind of discrimination at all.

There is no hostel facility available. But there are many paying guests available at the College area which fixes the problem of no hostels. The pg's can cost you somewhere between 7000-8000 rupees per month including food.

Our seniors are really very very helpful with no kind of ragging. Ragging is absolutely prohibited and seniors are very polite to the freshers. The college makes you sign a declaration right at start against any kind of ragging or miss behaviour.

I opted the course BCom hons in Goenka College Of commerce and business administration because of two factors, first one being I heard a lot that it is the best college for commerce in Eastern India (which it is as per the ranks are considered), and secondly because it was the best alternative near my home city (which is in Jharkhand). For admissions the college has a easy but rigorous procedure. It publishes a provisional merit list in which ranks are given to every student who applied based on their presentile.

The college have some really well reputed and highly qualified faculty (it is obvious as it is a full govt college). The faculty has a mix age group with some professors ranging up to 60 years and some at 29 years. Most of them are above 45 do you will get a experienced faculty group. Interaction with faculty till now I experienced low but it will not be the right time to make any perspective as I am im first year only. Teachers here are phd and highly qualified. One of the problem which I faced being a morning batch student is that faculty is not regular at all.
