Remarks
Overall management is pretty good. Very organised.
Course Curriculum Overview
Yes. Many of the courses are extremely relevant to industry standards. As an example, our college has a compulsory internship plus research in the last 6months of the course. This makes you incredibly industry ready and able to write and read very complex research papers. Another factoid: courses like data structures are taught with great rigour.
Placement Experience
General campus placements: These are managed by the TPO cell. I had enrolled for MCA where i found the TPO wasnt as enthusiastic about the placements. Focus was more on the Btech students. And that too mostly computer science related disciplines. Given that, still my junior batch and senior batches had spectacular placements. Mostly average packages were 6LPA for my junior and seniors. For our batch it was 4 LPA.
College Events
There is a Technovanza event that I was the coordinator for in both the years of my course. It was an extremely fun event. People from all around Maharashtra come to VJTI for that event. This includes coding competitions, find hidden clues where coding problems are solves by clues distributed throughout the campus which contestants have to find and solve. One of the best events of VJTI. There are many cultural events as well but i was never ever involved in them. So not that sure.
Fee Structure And Facilities
A year ago the fee was 25000 per year for general category. Now its 75000 per year. But the campus has gone from non-ac to ac. And many new facilities are started. Payment is accepted by demand drafts. No additional fees are charged and there is also absolutely no way you can get into VJTI without merit basis. The admission process is centralized so no monkey business like management admits you to college with some extra money. Top brains of Maharashtra come to this college. One of the best in this regard.
Fees and Financial Aid
No i hadnt. But i know a couple of people who had. They had to provide their SC ST certificate and they got educational scholarships. I think the fee drops to as low as 7k for a SC ST when the fee is 25k for Open.
Campus Life
People are very nice. No ragging. The gender ratio is very bad. Around 7:1 men to women ratio, but i think thats to be expected from a engineering institute. I think this ratio reverses for medical colleges. For extracurriculars there are sports groups. And gymkhana where you can play chess carrom table tennis. Etc.
Hostel Facilities
No i hadnt opted for hostel. I dont have any idea of fee structure. But the hotel doesnt look good. Very bad condition. However to stay in VJTI hostel requires extreme luck it youre in general category. First slots are given to reserved categories then to girls and last are males from open category.
Alumni/Alumna
Seniors are extremely helpful if you approach them with any issue you’re facing. And since all are at high positions we get referred easily. So maintain good network.
Admission
Opted VJTI primarily for placements and the crowd. This has a very big impact on the life decisions you take. I found one of the best friendships in this college. Admission process is centralized. You have to get admission through CET. For MCA, if youre in open category you need to be upwards of 99.5 percentile. I had to get through MAH-MCA-CET. There is no way to get admission through management quota etc. Its strictly merit based.
Faculty
Senior faculty is extremely good. I had the luck, sheer luck of studying under such 2 faculty members of our department. Sadly both of them are retiring in a year or so. Which means future batches wont get their guidance. Average age: 40. Qualification: Masters and a few Phds. Expertise: the faculty responsible for teaching data science and big data related disciplines had a doctorate and had published multiple r.papers in those disciplines. Faculty responsible for teaching mathematics had a masters degree in maths. And so on.
