Remarks
The positive thing about the college is that it promotes extra activities along with education. People live in free surroundings which helps in the overall development of the students. Education is the best part of the IIT which is why it is ranked among the top 100 in the world. I don't think there are anything negatives but living and mess facilities could be improved.
Course Curriculum Overview
Being the topmost institute in India, the overall course curriculum is well structured. The college has a semester pattern where one needs to complete the required amount of credits within 8 semesters. In each semester, one has to complete the compulsory core courses and can take extra courses as per the learning interest. Each course has given a specified slot which runs only in that particular slot. Not all exams have a specific pre-scheduled pattern. Every course has compulsory Midsems and Endsems. Some quizzes can be there but whether to conduct a quiz and a total number of quizzes to be taken is totally depend on the professor who is taking the course.
Placement Experience
Non-Core Placements and Jobs are being offered in high numbers over here. We have our placement cell which contacts the companies and students get recruited during the last year of their placement period in placement season. Core placement still has some concerns but whoever wants to sit for core placements gets recruited. Salary varies from 3-4 lacks to even in crores. The highest salary companies include Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, and many more. Over 500 companies and many startups come for campus placement Many Internship opportunities are here. Stipends vary from zero(core intern) to 4/5 lacks per month (Noncore intern)
College Events
We have two major events that measure a footfall of over 2 lack of students per year. One is the cultural event "Mood Indigo" whereas the other is a tech-based event "Techfest". Along with it, we have various bodies working towards improving sport skills, making nature sustainable, improving the lifestyle of needy people, etc. Some of the events include Abhyuday, IIT bombay, and Aavhan which is a sporting event conducted by IIT Bombay. Bodies such as NSS also conducts various events throughout the year to promote sustainability and good life.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee has been increased highly in the last few years. For me, around 1. 25 lacks per semester money is required to pay for tuition+ mess fees. Along with it, we need to pay for medical, electrical, and gymkhana facilities also which costs around 10 K per semester. In short, Tuition fee -1 lack Mess -25k Other facilities-10k
Fees and Financial Aid
Many students are from poor backgrounds which is why it is difficult for them to pay 1. 25 lack per semester. Taking this into consideration, IIT offers MCM Scholarships to students whose parental income is less than 5 lacks. One gets tuition fee 1 lack back as a benefit of it. IIT also offers a scholarship for students who have done exceptionally in academics. SC/ST students also get a mess fee as a refund.
Campus Life
Extracurricular activities are highly promoted in IIT. We have a sports event AAVHAN where students from various colleges play against each other. Various bodies such as NSS and abhyuday works towards promoting sustainability, cleanliness, and education among the people. The gender ratio during my 1st year was 11:1 (male: female). It has been improved from last 2 years due to girls reservation. Sexual education is highly promoted. People talk freely about it.
Hostel Facilities
Living in hostels is compulsory over here in IIT Bombay. We have 20 hostels where all the students from different streams live. Most of the hostels have crossed 60 years of life and are on the verge of getting demolished since the spalling of concrete and the weakness of structural components have significantly increased. Authorities have started taking action against it and we have fully furnished 9-floor Hostel 18 constructed last year. Construction of two new hostels is also going on. The infrastructure of the new hostel is very good so I would rate it 9/10 whereas, for old hostels, I would rate 2/10. We have various facilities which include a gym, sports room, TV room, common room, etc.
Admission
One needs to appear for JEE mains and JEE advance entrance exam to get into the IITs. Once you gave the exam, based on our All India Rank, you get to fill the preference form for colleges as well as different streams in the colleges. My JEE Advanced AIR was 805 in the OBC category which is why I got the Civil Engineering branch in IIT Bombay.
Faculty
Since the college ranks among the top 100 in the world, faculties over here are highly educated. As far as I know, the recruitment of faculty members requires minimum Ph. D. Degree from top universities in the world only. Suprise to know that nearly half of the faculty space is still vacant due to the unavailability of highly educated people. Nearly all the professors are polite, show interest in student's learning. Their teaching is also very good as the course they are teaching is closely related to the area in which they have completed their Ph. D.
