Remarks
The college is known to have several allegations and serious misconducts in the past which have not made it easy for the students to adapt to the working of the college. But still the college maintains the top colleges spot in India and is one of the most environment friendly campus you will ever see. The Lush Greens inside the college is a heartwarming image itself.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is well structured and has provisions for improvisation and research oriented comprehension. The exam structure comprises of internal and external exams which totals for 200 marks and will be reduced to 100 marks on report card arrival. Internals(best 2 of 3) + externals equals 100.
Placement Experience
Madras Christian College does not provide any internships but students are made to do internships which may vary on account of the department in which they belong. The college does have a placement cell dedicated to provide job opportunities to its students. Several top corporations such as HCL,Accenture;etc come by almost every year. I personally haven't done any internships till date so don't have any relevant information on that.
College Events
There are a lot of events that are held in MCC which varies from hall events, inter college and intra college events.Festivals such as Christmas, Pongal are celebrated in a grand manner. Great importance is given to the intercollege event ; Deepwoods and a combination of several allied events are held together. The college auditions are a great platform for the students to shine and prosper with their talents.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is feasible enough for the aided stream students as the total for the three whole years of undergraduate studies totals to around 40,000 whereas the total for the self financed stream students can vary from 2 lakhs to 3 lakhs according to course of choice and split upon 6 semesters.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are several scholarships provided and these appear on the notice board timely. Several scholarships are provided to students who excel in their studies as well as those who belong to underprivileged communities. The departments also encourage maximum participation upon the announcement of such scholarships.
Campus Life
MCC is a place known for wide varities of extra curricular activities. Theater Number 59 is one of the earliest events that have preserved drama inside the campus. The College auditions helps to bring out the best in the student community as well as ignite their talent. MCC is known for its achievement in various sports fields such as football , basketball, etc. Sports infrastructure is well maintained and adequate for development of sports and achievements in the same area. The science departments which includes the physics , chemistry, zoology; etc streams are in good shape and the level of infrastructure maintained is Okay.
Hostel Facilities
Except for the 2 new halls, all the other 4 hall's infrastructure is in a very bad condition. Infrastructure facilities has to improved and every year initiatives should be taken towards it's betterment. 24*7 water is the basic need of any individual and especially in the toilets it should be provided. The hostel infrastructure is minimal.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network always reaches out to the college and contributes to the upbringing of the college. Former student of MCC Indira Nooyi has even sponsored for a women's lounge with modern facilities. The sponsorship of several inter collegiate events are also sponsored by the alumni network. The senior students are helpful and myself being a senior have always tried to be the same.
Admission
The very first thing to do is to fill in the application form with the academic as well as the personal details along with the application fee. The procedure of filling the application form is not very hectic. The next step is to await for the merit list to appear and if selected you will be contacted by means of text message and email. It is important to keep the admission form along with all the original documents and two copies of each for the next step of admission procedure. After the verification of the documents and enrollment , temporary ID card will be provided and college will open within two weeks from the actual commencement of enrollment.
Faculty
Inspite of the infinite attempts at making the teaching interesting and creative the faculty still lacks the innovative mode of imparting knowledge. Though the traditional methods of teaching and holding true to its roots of teacher student classroom interaction does prove to be an effective means of basic form of faculty relations.
